Los legisladores del estado de Alabama hicieron comparaciones entre la cifra de muertos por el Holocausto y el aborto en proyectos de ley presentados a principios de este mes, lo que desató una protesta de la Liga Antidifamación (ADL).
El senador Greg Albritton y la representante Terri Collins, ambos republicanos, presentaron proyectos de ley en el Senado del Estado y la Cámara de Representantes para prohibir el aborto, excepto cuando sea necesario “para prevenir un riesgo grave para la salud de la madre del niño por nacer”.
Ambos proyectos de ley comparan el número de muertos por abortos con el del Holocausto, así como el de otros genocidios y actos violentos.
La legislación señala que 6 millones de judíos fueron asesinados por los nazis, así como el número de personas asesinadas en las prisiones soviéticas bajo Joseph Stalin, durante la campaña de China “Gran salto adelante”, y en los genocidios de Camboya y Ruanda.
“En comparación, más de 50 millones de bebés han sido abortados en los Estados Unidos desde la decisión de Roe en 1973, más de tres veces el número de asesinados en campos de exterminio alemanes, purgas chinas, gulags de Stalin, campos de exterminio de Camboya y Ruanda”, dice, invocando el caso histórico de derechos de aborto Roe v. Wade.
La Liga Antidifamación calificó la comparación como “totalmente fuera de los límites”.
“Destruye la memoria de los seis millones de judíos y de otros millones que fueron asesinados a manos de los nazis y se apropia de un evento histórico profundamente trágico con fines políticos”, dijo el portavoz de ADL Jake Hyman en una declaración el martes.
La ADL también envió una carta al Comité de Salud de la Cámara de Alabama a principios de este mes pidiéndole a su presidente que se oponga al proyecto de ley “porque contiene un lenguaje que es ofensivo para la comunidad judía e infringe la libertad religiosa de los alabamianos”.
