Dos días antes de inaugurar una nueva exposición en el Museo de Israel, falleció el artista argentino Osvaldo Romberg

Osvaldo Romberg, artista y profesor de arte, nació en Buenos Aires, Argentina en 1938 y pasó la mayor parte de su vida en Israel. Emigró a Israel en la década de 1950 y sirvió en el ejército israelí. Luego regresó a Argentina y completó sus estudios de Arquitectura. En 1973, emigró a Israel con su familia.

Durante 50 años de labor ejerció una marcada influencia en el desarrollo del arte conceptual en el país. Dirigió el Departamento de Arte en «Bezalel» a fines de la década de 1970 y fue profesor en varias instituciones académicas en Estados Unidos. Romberg inició y estableció varias galerías en los Estados Unidos e Israel. En 2012, fundó un centro de arte contemporáneo y cine experimental llamado «The Well» en Beer Sheva. Falleció solo dos días antes de que se abriera la exposición.

En una exposición íntima en el Museo de Israel se mostrarán obras seleccionadas del artista provenientes de la colección del museo. En su obra creó esquemas de color que resuenan con obras de artistas de la Bauhaus, quienes intentaron descifrar la teoría del color a través de la experiencia artística.

El trabajo de Romberg hasta 1965 fue de naturaleza expresionista. En la década de 1970, se dedicó a la investigación del arte. Romberg se destacó en su intento de descender a la base del hecho artístico, deconstruyendo obras maestras de la historia del arte en elementos formales y teóricos así como elementos emocionales y espirituales.

Desde la década de 1980, Romberg también se dedicó a la escultura y las instalaciones. Ganó varios premios por sus obras, entre ellos el Premio Sandberg del Museo de Israel en Jerusalén.
