Naciones Unidas: «75 años después de Auschwitz, recordación y enseñanza del Holocausto en pro de la justicia global»

El Programa de Divulgación sobre el Holocausto y las Naciones Unidas, conforme al mandato establecido en la resolución 60/7 de la Asamblea General, moviliza a la sociedad civil en pro de la recordación y la enseñanza del Holocausto, con el fin de ayudar a prevenir actos de genocidio en el futuro. El tema de 2020 para la recordación del Holocausto y la enseñanza al respecto es “75 años después de Auschwitz: recordación y enseñanza del Holocausto en pro de la justicia global”. El tema refleja la importancia que sigue teniendo hoy en día, 75 años después del Holocausto, la acción colectiva contra el antisemitismo y otras formas de sesgo para garantizar el respeto por la dignidad y los derechos humanos de todas las personas en todo el mundo.

La ceremonia, que tendrá lugar en el 75º aniversario del día de la liberación por las fuerzas soviéticas del campo nazi alemán de concentración y exterminio de Auschwitz-Birkenau (1940-1945), correrá a cargo de la Sra. Melissa Fleming, Secretaria General Adjunta de Comunicación Global de las Naciones Unidas. Se ha invitado al Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas António Guterres, al Presidente del septuagésimo cuarto período de sesiones de la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas, a los Representantes Permanentes de Alemania, los Estados Unidos de América e Israel ante las Naciones Unidas y a los supervivientes del Holocausto, el Sr. Shraga Milstein y la Sra. Irene Shashar, para que pronuncien sus discursos. El Juez Theodor Meron, que ocupó el cargo de Presidente del Mecanismo Residual Internacional de los Tribunales Penales de las Naciones Unidas, intervendrá como orador principal. El cantor Shulem Lemmer recitará las oraciones conmemorativas. El Sr. Itzhak Perlman interpretará una pieza musical.

La exposición Seeing Auschwitz (Contemplando Auschwitz) cuestiona el conocimiento que tiene el espectador sobre el mayor centro de exterminio de la historia del ser humano. El modo en que se percibe Auschwitz se basa en una cantidad relativamente pequeña de fotografías obtenidas de un número de fuentes todavía menor. Juntas, las fotografías son una prueba de vital importancia de los crímenes cometidos por los nazis. Mediante la muestra de fotografías tomadas por los criminales y, en uno de los casos, por las propias víctimas, la exposición alienta al espectador a reflexionar más profundamente en torno a lo que las fotografías revelan sobre los fotógrafos y sus intenciones, y sobre el modo en que todo ello orienta la percepción que el espectador tiene del significado de “Auschwitz”. La exposición fue organizada y comisariada por Musealia (España), en colaboración con el Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum (Polonia). Permanecerá abierta al público hasta el 24 de febrero de 2020.

Inauguración de la exposición «Crímenes al descubierto: la primera generación de investigadores del Holocausto»

Horas: de las 18.00 a las 20.00 horas. (previa invitación)
Esta exposición versa sobre los historiadores judíos y los académicos de diversas nacionalidades y ámbitos de especialización que documentaron y protegieron las pruebas que demostraban las atrocidades cometidas contra el pueblo judío durante el Holocausto, y que ejercieron toda la presión posible para llamar la atención sobre lo que estaba ocurriendo en la Europa ocupada por los nazis. Con su labor, estos historiadores y académicos lucharon desde la resistencia contra el plan nazi de destruir a todo el pueblo judío y su cultura, y lideraron el establecimiento de un marco jurídico internacional complementario a la creación de las Naciones Unidas. La primera generación de investigadores del Holocausto estableció las bases de nuestro conocimiento actual del genocidio. La exposición fue comisariada por el Memorial and Educational Site House de la Wannsee-Conference de Berlín, en colaboración con la sucursal en Berlín del Touro College y la Wiener Library de Londres, y ha sido patrocinada por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de la República Federal de Alemania. Permanecerá abierta hasta el 24 de febrero de 2020.

La exposición «Some were Neighbours» (Algunos eran vecinos) aborda una de las preguntas clave acerca del Holocausto: ¿cómo ocurrió? La exposición examina el papel de las personas corrientes en el Holocausto y los diversos motivos que influyeron en las decisiones personales. Estos motivos fueron, por lo general, el miedo, la indiferencia, el antisemitismo, las cuestiones profesionales, su estatus en la comunidad, la presión social o la oportunidad de obtener un beneficio propio. La exposición brinda un reconocimiento a aquellas personas que no sucumbieron a las tentaciones ni a las oportunidades de traicionar a su prójimo, recordándonos que siempre hay una alternativa a la complicidad en tales actos de maldad, incluso en los tiempos más difíciles. La exhibición fue organizada y comisariada por el United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Permanecerá abierta hasta el 24 de febrero de 2020.

La negación y la imagen distorsionada del Holocausto ignoran los hechos irrefutables y demostrados de que el Holocausto sí ocurrió, y quitan importancia al sufrimiento de las víctimas y los supervivientes de las atrocidades perpetradas por los nazis y sus cómplices. La negación y la distorsión de la historia son un arma fundamental en el arsenal del discurso de odio. El discurso de odio alienta la deshumanización de las personas y los grupos y se utiliza para justificar la discriminación y otros actos de violencia. En 2020 se cumplen 75 años desde que acabaron la Segunda Guerra Mundial y el Holocausto, y, sin embargo, el antisemitismo sigue persistiendo. Esta sesión informativa ofrecerá una perspectiva histórica de la negación y la distorsión del Holocausto y estudiará las medidas que se están adoptando para detectar y combatir esta negación y distorsión y para contrarrestar el discurso de odio. El debate será moderado por el Departamento de Comunicación Global de las Naciones Unidas.
