Rivlin no extenderá el mandato de Gantz para formar Gobierno y todo indica que habría elecciones por cuarta vez

El presidente, Reuvén Rivlin, anunció que no extenderá el plazo de dos semanas, previsto por la ley, y solicitado por el líder del partido Azul y Blanco, Benny Gantz, tras estancarse las negociaciones para formar un gobierno de unidad con el primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu.

Rivlin manifestó que a menos que se alcance mañana, lunes, a la medianoche, un acuerdo para la formación de un gobierno, el mandato para formar gobierno será regresado a la Knéset (Parlamento) y no será transferido a Netanyahu.

La Residencia Presidencial explicó en un comunicado que la decisión fue tomada luego que Rivlin conversara con Netanyahu, que encabeza el Partido Likud, quien no confirmó que ambos líderes estén a punto de firmar un acuerdo para la formación de un gobierno de unidad.

«Si los dos no firman un acuerdo hasta la medianoche de mañana, y el mapa de recomendaciones no cambia, el mandato volverá a la Knéset y comenzará un período de 21 días en el que los miembros de la Knéset pueden formular una mayoría para recomendar a un candidato acordado. El candidato acordado tendrá 14 días para formar un gobierno», detalla el comunicado.

«Si hasta el final del primer período otorgado a Gantz para formar un gobierno, las circunstancias cambian y las partes acuden al presidente para una extensión del período para ayudarlos a llegar a un acuerdo, el presidente lo reconsiderará», aclara el texto.

Si, en los 21 días en los que se pueden recolectar 61 firmas con el fin de armar un gobierno, ningún miembro de la Knesset logra cumplir esa tarea, Israel se encaminará a nuevas elecciones, por cuarta vez, en el lapso de un año y medio.
