La masacre de Ma’alot fue una masacre realizada en una escuela de la ciudad de Israel Ma’alot,por los miembros palestinos del frente democrático para la liberación de Palestina, que ocurrió el 15 de mayo, 1974, el vigésimo sexto aniversario de la independencia israelí.

El ataque

Los palestinos del Líbano, e identificados posteriormente como miembros del frente democrático para la liberación de Palestina (DFLP), una facción afiliada con la OLP, se infiltraron en Israel vestidos como soldados israelíes y entraron a una escuela primaria en Ma’alot (comunidad del norte de Israel) en donde un grupo de chicos dormían en el piso después de que un día pasara ir de excursión.

Los miembros de DFLP primero atacaron una furgoneta que traía a mujeres árabes a casa del trabajo, matando a dos mujeres e hiriendo a una. Después entraron en la ciudad de Ma’alot, mataron a una familia en su apartamento y después asumieron el control de una escuela local, matando inmediatamente a un protector de seguridad, a un estudiante, y a otra persona. Algunos estudiantes escaparon saltando de una ventana, pero retuvieron a 90 estudiantes y a algunos profesores como rehenes.

Los terroristas presentaron sus demandas la liberar presos políticos árabes y terroristas , incluyendo Kozo Okamoto – un japonés implicado en la masacre 1972 del aeropuerto de Lod, o ellos matarían a los estudiantes. El plazo fue fijado para las 6:00 P.M. del mismo día.

La Knesset, el parlamento israelí, realizo una sesión de emergencia, y a las 3:00 P.M. la decisión fue negociar, los miembros de DFLP rechazaron un pedido por más tiempo.

En 5:45 P.M., una unidad del grupo de las fuerzas especiales de Sayeret Matkal de la élite stormed entró al edificio. La estrategia era matar a los terroristas, pero estos antes habían utilizado las armas y los explosivos para matar a algunos de sus rehenes. Mataron a un total de 26 israelíes e hirieron a más de 60 personas dando lugar a la masacre de Maalot .
