Yad Vashem tiene su origen en el versículo:
וְנָתַתִּי לָהֶם בְּבֵיתִי וּבְחוֹמֹתַי יָד וָשֵׁם, טוֹב מִבָּנִים וּמִבָּנוֹת; שֵׁם עוֹלָם אֶתֶּן לוֹ, אֲשֶׁר לֹא יִכָּרֵת.
Isaías 56: 5 “Y les daré lugar en mi casa y dentro de mis muros, YAD (mano)
VASHEM (nombre) mejor que el de hijos e hijas; nombre perpetuo les daré,
que nunca desaparecerá. Así las dos palabras «mano» y «nombre» aparecen en
la Biblia en el contexto de conmemoración y recuerdo e Yad como monumento,
lugar específico.

El recordar de dónde proviene la palabra compuesta Yad Vashem, que dicho de otra manera por el profeta Isaías es “les daré un nombre permanente”, fue el principio por el cual se creó el museo que lleva su nombre en Jerusalem. Es para perpetuar los nombres de los asesinados por los nazis, para que no mueran en el olvido.

Entre las partes que componen este museo la Sala de los Nombres fue erigida con nombres y apellidos de los que perecieron en la Shoá. Es para que sus nombres perduren por generaciones ideadas como un cono de diez metros de altura. Con 600 fotografías, con datos guardados que pueden ser consultados.

Haber entrado a esa sala es imborrable. El levantar la cabeza para recorrer con la mirada tantas vidas truncadas por el antisemitismo del nacionalsocialismo alemán estremece el alma.

Además, esos nombres que nunca más podrán crecer mientras crece día a día y años tras año la impunidad contra los perpetradores.

Esos nombres escritos en blanco sobre un panel negro para desafiar a la oscuridad de sus muertes sobre lo blanco de la luz a irradiar para que sean vistos a través de su escritura.

Esos nombres que ya nunca responderán pero son nombrados colectivamente en el acto anual del 18 de julio cuando dicen ¡Presente!.

Y también, esos nombres que se ahogan en llanto al sonar la sirena a las 9.53«y ensordece para que repiquen en las almas.

Esta analogía de rostros y nombres en diferentes escalas en dos memoriales distantes judíos hablan de un anteayer antisemita. De un ayer terrorista antijudío y antisionista y un hoy incierto a los que suman los anteriores. Y donde la vida tiene poco valor cuando los objetivos es matar, matar, matar.
