Rabinos ultraortodoxos recomiendan a sus comunidades vacunarse contra COVID-19 en Israel.

Para llegar a esa conclusión, Jaim Kanievsky, Guershon Edelstein y Shalom Cohen pidieron opinión médica sobre el asunto al rabino Elimelej Firer. Lo hicieron porque es quien dirige una destacada organización médica caritativa, según informó The Times of Israel.

La opinión, a nombre de Kanievsky, Edelstein y Shalom, señaló que “cualquier persona que tenga la opción de recibir la vacuna debe hacerlo”. Dijeron que se ha demostrado que es segura bajo métodos científicos aceptados.

Firer recomienda en la opinión médica que las personas con alergias consulten con sus médicos antes de vacunarse. Advierte contra la vacunación de niños menores de 16 años, ya que la vacuna aún no se ha probado en ellos.

La opinión médica se publicará el miércoles en los principales periódicos jaredíes en un esfuerzo por llegar a la mayor cantidad posible de miembros de la comunidad ultraortodoxa.

Kanievsky, quien sobrevivió a sus 92 años al COVID-19 luego de contagiarse en octubre pasado, y Edelstein son líderes de la corriente lituana (no jasídica) del mundo ultraortodoxo, mientras que Cohen es la principal autoridad sefardí de la comunidad y miembro del consejo religioso que asesora al partido Shas.

Un primer brote de coronavirus a principios de este año afectó a los ultraortodoxos. Especialmente en la ciudad de Bnei Brak, después de que algunos rabinos y miembros de la comunidad no tomaran con seriedad las instrucciones gubernamentales del gobierno. El rechazo a algunas directivas del Ministerio de Salud continúa en algunos sectores ultraortodoxos.

El domingo, funcionarios del Ministerio de Salud se reunieron con los principales rabinos de Bnei Brak. Hicieron n un esfuerzo por convencerlos de que respaldaran públicamente el programa nacional de vacunación contra el coronavirus. Sin embargo, no obtuvieron el apoyo que querían.

A la reunión presencial del domingo asistió el director general del Ministerio de Salud, Jezy Levy. También el comisionado nacional del coronavirus, Najman Ash. Ambos se enfrentaron, entre otros, al rabino jefe de la ciudad, Shevaj Tzvi Rosenblatt. También al jefe de un prominente tribunal rabínico, el rabino Yehudah Silman.

Si bien los rabinos respaldaron la idea general de la vacunación, también expresaron algunas preocupaciones.
