El aumento de casos de coronavirus en Israel no cesa y en función de ello, después de horas de debates, el gabinete de ministros resolvió este martes pasar de un estado de cierre parcial a uno total, que incluye la suspensión de clases presenciales durante las próximas dos semanas.
La medida empezará a regir en la medianoche del jueves. Establece el cierre de todos los establecimientos educativos, a excepción del sistema de educación especial. También implica nuevas restricciones para ciudadanos que deseen viajar al extranjero. Solamente podrán hacerlo si compraron los boletos antes del jueves o bien a través de la aprobación de un comité de excepciones. En el caso de los ciudadanos que vuelven del extranjero desde países con altos índices de morbilidad, serán aislados en hoteles.
Las aglomeraciones de personas solamente estarán permitidas con una capacidad máxima de 5 personas en espacios cerrados y 10 en espacios abiertos. Se reducirá la lista de lugares de trabajo que se podrá realizar de manera presencial. Además, fueron suspendidas todas las actividades deportivas profesionales. El límite de circulación por la vía pública seguirá siendo de mil metros de los domicilios.
La decisión se produjo horas después de un acuerdo entre el primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu y Benny Gantz, presidente del partido Kajol Labán, que resolvieron endurecer las pautas de distanciamiento social en función de las estadísticas crecientes de contagios en el país.

La política de cerrar las escuelas, la decisión más fuerte de la jornada, fue aceptada sin resistencia por Yoav Galant, ministro de Educación israelí. “Debe quedar claro que las escuelas no son una fuente de infección masiva, pero si las clases se desarrollan normalmente es imposible aplicar un cierre general”, explicó.
“Esto es lo que vemos en las últimas semanas y está relacionado con la circulación que acompaña el funcionamiento del sistema educativo. A pesar de las necesidades de los alumnos, me veo obligado a cerrar todas las escuelas en función de una necesidad nacional de frenar el virus a través de un cierre breve e intensivo”, agregó Galant. Al mismo tiempo, pidió excepciones para el sistema de educación especial y los exámenes previos a la matriculación a los que deben someterse los estudiantes de colegios secundarios que están cerca de egresar.
Además, el ministro exigió “aprovechar este período de cierre para vacunar a toda la población docente”. Galant pidió comenzar esa campaña el próximo fin de semana. “Lo mínimo que se puede pedir es que los maestros aprovechen los excesos de dosis”, afirmó.
Israel Katz, ministro de Finanzas, en un principio intentó excluir del cierre a los jardines de infantes ya que esto impide a muchos israelíes asistir a sus lugares de trabajo. Pero con el correr del debate tampoco se opuso a la suspensión de clases. “La situación está peor que nunca. Cuando se ve la luz al final del túnel, las vacunas, es difícil aplicar el cierre”, analizó.
