Dos conocidos historiadores polacos de la Shoá están siendo juzgados por presunta difamación por su afirmación de que el difunto alcalde de una ciudad cerca de Varsovia que salvó a una mujer judía estuvo involucrado en el asesinato de otros 22 judíos.
El año pasado demandaron a Jan Grabowski y Barbara Engelking en un tribunal civil. Lo hizo una sobrina del alcalde por lo que escribieron sobre él en su libro de 2018 “Noche sin fin”, sobre la colaboración polaca. Su juicio se inició el 12 de enero, informó el sábado el sitio de noticias OKO.
Absolvieron al difunto alcalde, Edward Malinowski, en un juicio después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial por colaborar con los nazis en la localidad de Malinowo, que él encabezaba y que se encuentra a unas 70 millas al noroeste de Varsovia.
Durante el juicio, surgió el tema de los 22 judíos asesinados. Pero una mujer judía a la que salvó, supuestamente a cambio de un pago, Estera Siemiatycka, testificó a favor del alcalde. Por eso se lo absolvió informó Enlace Judío.
En su libro, Grabowski y Engelking revisaron esos cargos. Escribieron que en 1944 “se dijo en la aldea que un grupo de 22 judíos se escondía en un bosque cercano. Los polacos los tracionaron los alemanes los asesinaron. Se dijo que el alcalde de Malinowski estuvo involucrado en esto”.
Cuando OKO le preguntó si era seguro que el alcalde estaba involucrado en los asesinatos, Engelking dijo que no estaba seguro. “No escribí que pensara que había traicionado a los judíos. Informé sobre la opinión del testigo”, dijo.
Engelking agregó: “Creo que a pesar de que ella [Siemiatycka] tenía una mala opinión de él [Malinowski], quería hacerle un favor y mostrar su gratitud por salvarle la vida”.
