Hubo mucho revuelo con el tema del sponsoreo del Estado de Israel a la 31 ª Bienal de San Pablo, antes, durante los días previos de su inauguración al público, reservados sólo a especialistas, y quizás lo siga habiendo a partir de hoy, que es cuando abre al público general. Todo comenzó hace una semana, cuando un grupo de artistas de la Bienal hicieron pública una carta abierta pidiendo que sus curadores y organizadores rechazaran el apoyo financiero de Israel por los hechos ocurridos en Gaza.
Esta semana fue la pre-inauguración –para invitados especiales y prensa– de la Bienal, que es la segunda más importante del mundo, y aparecieron personajes tan míticos como el pintor neoyorquino Julian Schnabel, el curador suizo Hans Ulrich Obrist, y los curadores brasileños Luiza Proenca y Benjamín Seoroussi. La inauguración para el público será hoy. Y, por lo que se ve, esta edición promete ser una de las mejores de los últimos años. Fue realizada por un grupo de curadores internacionales –los israelíes Galit Eilat y Oren Sagiv, los españoles Nuria Enguita Mayo y Pablo Lafuente, y el brillante y simple inglés Charles Esche a la cabeza– que declara: “No creemos en los ‘curadores estrellas’”. Ellos le pusieron un nombre imaginativo a la Bienal que plantea, a la vez, un conflicto: “Cómo celebrar cosas que no existen”. La respuesta es difícil pero el evento intentará, a través del arte, buscar soluciones a problemas que todos sufrimos: emocionales, sociales, económicos, ecológicos, políticos.
Con 81 proyectos de más de 100 artistas de 34 países, los curadores contaron que la mayoría de las obras son de América Latina. Por eso no sorprende que seis de los artistas que presentan obras sean argentinos: el ya fallecido León Ferrari –cuyos trabajos se exhiben en relación a los del colectivo Etcétera, integrado por el argentino Federico Zukerfeld, la argentino-chilena Loreto Guzmán más ayudas de otros artistas como Franco Berardi “Bifo”–, Alejandra Riera y el histórico Juan Carlos Romero.
En total son unas 250 obras que pueden verse desde ahora desplegadas en el fabuloso pabellón Ciccillo Matarazzo del Parque Ibirapuera, ubicado en una de las zonas más bonitas de la ciudad paulista.
