El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, criticó a su homónimo de Israel, Isaac Herzog, por no indultar al primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu.
Trump dijo que Herzog debería estar avergonzado por exculpara a Netanyahu, quien está siendo juzgado por presunto fraude, soborno y abuso de confianza.
Cuando los periodistas en la Casa Blanca le preguntaron si Netanyahu es responsable de las fallas de seguridad que permitieron que se desarrollara el ataque de Hamás el 7 de octubre, Trump respondió: “Supongo que todos son responsables”, antes de señalar que fue un “ataque furtivo” que “nadie más habría visto venir”.
Luego volvió a elogiar a Netanyahu como “un muy buen primer ministro en tiempos de guerra”, destacando sus éxitos conjuntos contra Irán antes de apuntar a Herzog.
“Tienen un presidente que se negó a concederle el indulto. Debería avergonzarse de sí mismo. La principal facultad que Herzog tiene es conceder indultos, y no lo está haciendo. Dijo que lo ha concedido cinco veces, pero no quiere hacerlo porque, supongo, pierde su poder”, expresó el mandatario norteamericano.
Trump continuó criticando al presidente de Israel: “Creo que el pueblo debería avergonzarlo. Es una vergüenza no haberlo hecho”.

Cuando recibió a Netanyahu en diciembre, el líder norteamericano afirmó que habló con Herzog sobre el tema y que le comentó que un indulto estaba “en camino”.
Herzog negó rápidamente esta afirmación y aseguró que no habían hablado recientemente ni que habían tomado decisiones sobre un indulto.
