Asimismo, Croacia no podrá jugar ninguno de los restantes partidos de dicha fase -sólo le queda uno, contra Bulgaria el 10 de octubre- en el Stadion Poljud de Split, y la federación nacional ha sido multada con cien mil euros.
La UEFA castiga de esta forma el «comportamiento racista» y la «conducta inadecuada del equipo (por cinco tarjetas o más)» en el partido de clasificación para la Eurocopa 2016 del pasado 12 de junio ante Italia en Split (1-1).
Sobre el terreno de juego en el que se disputó el partido -jugado a puerta cerrada por gritos racistas en su anterior encuentro, frente a Noruega- apareció una esvástica sobre el césped.
La Federación de Croacia, después del partido, pidió disculpas «ante todos los espectadores, ante los visitantes de Italia y ante los jugadores de ambas selecciones por el símbolo nazi en el césped de Poljud».
Croacia lidera el Grupo H, ahora con 13 puntos, uno más que Italia y cuatro por delante de Noruega. Completan el grupo Bulgaria (8), Azerbaiyán (4) y Malta (1).
A Croacia sólo le queda un encuentro como local, el 10 de octubre contra Bulgaria.
