El avión Su-24 ruso que violó el espacio aéreo turco y fue derribado por un caza del país integrante de la OTAN llevaba a bordo a dos pilotos, uno de los cuales resultó muerto a pesar de eyectarse del aparato. El otro estaría en manos de los rebeldes turcomanos que luchan contra el Ejército de Bashar al Assad en la región fronteriza entre Siria y Turquía.
Las imágenes que los rebeldes han publicado en redes sociales exhiben los restos de uno de los pilotos caídos en territorio sirio, tras ser impactados por proyectiles turcos. Los radares captaron el derrotero del avión, que tras diez alertas de la Fuerza Aérea turca terminó siniestrado.
Los bombardeos de Rusia contra posiciones de los rebeldes que combaten contra la dictadura de Bashar al Assad, aliado del presidente Vladimir Putin, han acercado peligrosamente los aviones del Kremlin a la frontera con Turquía. Como miembro de la OTAN, y por lo tanto aliado de los Estados Unidos y otras potencias occidentales, Ankara ha advertido a Moscú que no aceptará violaciones de su espacio aéreo.
Esa amenaza se ha cumplido este lunes 24 de noviembre con el derribo de una aeronave. Un piloto murió en el incidente y otro se encuentra en manos de los rebeldes, tras eyectarse de la aeronave. Rusia ha dicho que se trató de un «incidente grave». Turquía ha mostrado, en su defensa, una reconstrucción del recorrido del Su-24 ruso con base en la información de los radares.
