Pocos confían en que las elecciones legislativas cambien los equilibrios del poder concentrado en manos de la monarquía, grupos empresariales y líderes tribales rurales en un fragmentado Parlamento.
Pero después de haber boicoteado los dos anteriores comicios, los islamistas han presentado candidaturas y aspiran a convertirse en la fuerza más votada, con un 20% de los sufragios, y determinar la nueva coalición gubernamental. El desafío electoral de los Hermanos Musulmanes no cuestiona, sin embargo, la figura del rey Abdalá II: reivindica la aplicación de las reformas democráticas prometidas por el monarca hachemí tras el estallido de la primavera árabe.

Los medios de comunicación jordanos informaban de que una foto tomada con el móvil era la prueba exigida para recibir dinero a cambio del sufragio.
En su casa del barrio popular de Jazmín, el vicepresidente de los Hermanos Musulmanes, Musa al Walsh, reflexiona en voz alta ante unas elecciones que considera decisivas. Con aire de predicador —traje gris marengo, camisa blanca sin corbata, barba rala—, este contable de 64 años, que ya fue diputado entre 2003 y 2007, encabeza la lista de los islamistas por la segunda circunscripción electoral de Amán. “Si las elecciones son limpias y no se repite el fraude, como en los dos anteriores que boicoteamos, vamos a obtener no menos del 20% de los sufragios y 30 de los 130 escaños de la Cámara baja”, pronostica con aire grave. “Nosotros aspiramos a que la sharía (ley islámica), sea la ley de toda Jordania, pero lo haremos de forma gradual y por consenso”, asegura Al Walsh, quien dice no tener relación alguna con los proscritos Hermanos Musulmanes de Egipto. “Compartimos los principios del partido del presidente (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan de Turquía”, matiza.
“Si ganan los Hermanos Musulmanes yo me marcho de Jordania… a España, por ejemplo”, advierte entre bromas y veras Buzaina Tarawna, expresidenta del Colegio de Arquitectos de Amán ante la puerta del colegio electoral Princesa Laila. Esta profesional de 41 años es cabeza de lista la de la coalición conservadora Juntos, una de las listas formadas por grupos de empresarios y corporaciones gremiales para defender sus intereses bajo el paraguas protector de la monarquía. “Defendemos un modelo de sociedad civil y laica impuesto al que persiguen los islamistas”, asegura Tarawna, que hace campaña vestida como una mujer de negocios, con un traje de chaqueta y pantalón oscuros sobre los que relucen sortijas y pulseras.
“Jordania estrena con estos comicios una Comisión Electoral Independiente. Si cumple su misión, el fraude en las urnas debe de reducirse”, apunta el analista político Fahed al Kheetan en su despacho de editorialista del diario Al Gahd. Este conocido tertuliano de los debates de la televisión jordana, impecablemente trajeado, considera que la oposición islamista volverá a estar representada, aunque no cree que la Hermandad supere el listón del 10% de los escaños y los 12 o 15 diputados. “Los ciudadanos están más preocupados por la situación creada en un país de 6,5 millones de habitantes —de los que cerca de la mitad son de origen palestino— en el que ahora viven otros tres millones de extranjeros, entre refugiados iraquíes y sirios o inmigrantes egipcios”, puntualiza Al Keetan. “Si Jordania no recibe ayuda internacional para lidiar con este problema, la situación se volvería insostenible”.
El palestino Ayub Alewa, de 57 años, viste chillaba marrón y luce una sonrisa desdentada en el Colegio de Primaria del campo de refugiados de Baqaa. “Valgo para todo, albañil, agricultor… trabajo en lo que sale”, reconoce alegre. “Con eso y con las ayudas de la ONU vivimos nueve personas en casa”. Acaba de votar e intenta limpiarse la mancha de tinta indeleble con la que quedan marcados los electores para evitar sufragios repetidos. Su carné de identidad indica que tiene nacionalidad jordana. “Yo lo que quiero es volver algún día a Hebrón, de donde salí de niño”, responde resignado cuando se repregunta por su voto, “pero creo que moriré aquí en Jordania, como mis padres”.
