Una foto tomada en el aeropuerto Heathrow, en Londres, muestra a judíos y musulmanes rezando juntos en la misma sala de oración.
La imagen fue difundida por Imam Tawhidi, a quien se lo conoce como el Iman de la Paz, y escribió el artículo «Por qué creo que Palestina es tierra judía»:
«Desde mediados del siglo XX, ha habido una lucha interminable entre israelíes judíos y palestinos musulmanes sobre el gobierno de la región geográfica. Los musulmanes reconocen a Islam-Palestina como el único país legítimo, mientras que la mayoría del pueblo judío cree que Israel es un estado legítimo. Cada año, y durante el mes de Ramadán, los musulmanes protestan contra lo que llaman «la ocupación israelí de Palestina», o lo que se ha denominado «el conflicto más difícil del mundo» (1)
No soy un político, y todos los arreglos políticos y diplomáticos que conducen a la creación de Israel son irrelevantes para mí, simplemente porque soy un individuo religioso que ve esas situaciones a través de la lente de la geografía y la historia islámica.
La Torá había existido mucho antes de la Biblia, con Moisés y Jesús llegando a Jerusalén para predicar sus escrituras siglos antes del Profeta Mohammad. Por lo tanto, no puede ser históricamente ni geográficamente considerado apropiado creer que Mohammad había venido con el Islam a Jerusalén antes que ellos. El Islam siempre fue una religión minoritaria en comparación con las dos religiones bien establecidas: el cristianismo y el judaísmo. Los ciudadanos de Jerusalén que se convirtieron al Islam habrían cambiado sus propias creencias solamente, y no la historia de Jerusalén.
Jerusalén era el hogar de los partidarios de la fe judía, y luego de los cristianos. Así, ¿cómo llegó el Islam a la región? La escritura islámica menciona que el profeta Mahoma llegó a la mezquita Al-Aqsa (la mezquita más lejana) durante su profecía. Sin embargo, hay poca evidencia de que esta Mezquita esté realmente en Palestina; ya que hay un gran número de musulmanes que creen que «La mezquita más lejana» es una indicación a una mezquita en los cielos, no en la tierra; porque los santuarios islámicos actuales en Palestina no existieron durante la época del Profeta Mohammad.
La invasión islámica de Palestina
El Islam llegó oficialmente a Palestina en el año 636, cuatro años después de la muerte del profeta Mahoma, y durante el reinado del segundo califa del Islam Omar Ibn al Kattab. El califato islámico dirigió un ataque a Jerusalén, que fue gobernado por los romanos bizantinos, que fueron colocados bajo un asedio de cuatro meses a partir de noviembre de ese año. (2) Después de cuatro meses de dificultades y carnicería, el Patriarca ortodoxo de Jerusalén, Sophronius, entregó Jerusalén al califa Omar en 637.
La imagen anterior muestra ‘La mezquita Aqsa’ que fue construida por el califa Omar durante su califato, 73 años después de la muerte del profeta Mahoma. Hoy en día, muchos musulmanes creen erróneamente que fue construido por el Profeta Mohammad mismo, cuando esto claramente no es el caso.
La mezquita de Jerusalén con la cúpula de oro es conocida por los musulmanes como ‘ Qubbat al-Sakhrah’ (cúpula de la roca), también fue construida por el califa Omar y reconstruida por la dinastía Omeya.
En el siglo IX, la dinastía fatimí, un califato islámico chiíta , invadió Palestina y masacró a los cristianos en Jerusalén por el lado de los romanos de los bizantinos; que habían intentado recuperar su tierra conquistada. El famoso califa del califato islámico fatimí, Al-Hakim, causó mucho daño a toda la región, incluso matando a Juan VII, el patriarca de Jerusalén. Después de la derrota de los primeros cruzados, los musulmanes se convirtieron en la mayoría. Toda la costa mediterránea fue capturada, seguida de una serie de masacres del pueblo cristiano y un genocidio que se extendió hasta Damasco y Beirut. (3)
El Islam se convirtió en la religión establecida de Palestina por el 9no siglo, y desarrolló en convertirse en la religión de la mayoría de la región a través de la era Mamluk, entre 1250-1516.
Por lo tanto, nuestros primeros califas islámicos no entraron en Palestina como predicadores y convertir su nación en el Islam. Nosotros, los musulmanes, heredamos Palestina después de haber sido invadida varias veces por nuestros ex califas. Los ciudadanos de Palestina pueden convertirse al Islam, pero de ninguna manera Palestina puede ser considerada tierra musulmana.

Utilizando la excusa de una «invasión israelí potencial» de todo el Medio Oriente «Así como hicieron con Palestina», han utilizado la riqueza de su país para desarrollar potencias nucleares que amenazan la seguridad de toda la región; mientras que las estadísticas de la pobreza aumentan en todo el país.
Mi buen amigo y prominente Imam Sheikh Samir Asi y yo trabajamos juntos en el puente entre las comunidades judías y musulmanas del mundo. Creemos en establecer la paz entre todos los seres humanos sin importar sus religiones. Debemos condenar el terrorismo que tuvo lugar en la historia de nuestras religiones, y luchar por un mañana mejor y mucho más seguro.
Si Israel fuera un establishment cristiano o incluso comunista, dudo mucho que el conflicto hubiera resultado como lo ha hecho. Si Palestina es tierra judía o no y si Israel es un estado o no son dos debates diferentes. Tanto musulmanes como no musulmanes pueden rechazar que Israel sea un estado, pero no puede negar el hecho de que toda la región, incluida Palestina, es de hecho una tierra judía.
