Un hijo del líder de Estado Islámico (EI) Abu Bakr al Baghdadi murió en Homs, en el centro de Siria, según reportó una agencia cercana a los yihadistas.
“El hijo del califa Hudaifa al Badri fue asesinado en una operación contra Nusayriyyah (una palabra usualmente empleada por el grupo para referirse a las fuerzas del régimen sirio leales al presidente alauita Bashar al Assad) y los rusos en la central térmica de Homs”, dijo la agencia de noticias Nashir.
La agencia, que posteó una fotografía del muchacho donde se lo ve portando un arma y con vestimenta militar, no dio precisiones acerca de la fecha de su muerte.
Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim al-Badri, nombre real del líder yihadista, nació en la ciudad iraquí de Samarra en 1971. Proveniente de una familia religiosa, el mismo Ibrahim era especialista en estudios islámicos por la Universidad de Bagdad y era clérigo en una mezquita de su ciudad natal cuando Estados Unidos invadió Irak en 2003.
En febrero de 2004, fue arrestado y recluido en Camp Bucca, un centro de detención controlado por Estados Unidos. Durante los cuatro años de detención se dedicó a la instrucción religiosa, mientras jugaba futbol. A Camp Bucca se le conoce como la Universidad yihadista, se cree que hasta nueve líderes del Estado Islámico estuvieron presos ahí.
En diciembre de 2008 se unió al grupo Estado Islámico encabezado por Abu Musab al Zarkawi y tras la muerte de este en un bombardeo estadounidense en 2010, se convirtió en el líder de la organización.
A partir de entonces adoptó el nombre de Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, por el simbolismo que este tiene para la comunidad musulmana: Abu Bakr, fue el primer califa tras la muerte del profeta Mahoma, Al-Baghdadi quiere decir “de Bagdad” haciendo referencia al califato de Bagdad que el Estado islámico busca recuperar y comprendía desde Libia hasta lo que actualmente es Irán, incluido Jerusalén.
Al Bagdadi proclamó en 2014 un califato -entretanto cada vez menor-que abarca partes de Irak y Siria.
