El primer ministro de Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu, decidió detener las licitaciones para más de 20 mil viviendas en Cisjordania, luego de detener otras 1400 a principios de esta semana.
«Este paso no contribuye en nada a la colonización. Al contrario, es perjudicial para ella», le expresó el premier israelí al ministro de Vivienda, Uri Ariel.
La decisión de Netanyahu se suscitó luego de presiones de Estados Unidos y la Autoridad Palestina. Según voceros de la oficina del premier, la iniciativa llevada a cabo por el ministro Ariel «es muy desafortunada», ya que Israel necesita el apoyo de Estados Unidos y del resto del Grupo 5+1 para obtener sanciones más duras contra Irán por su plan nuclear.
Además, Mahmoud Abbas, titular de la Autoridad Palestina, al conocer el plan de construcción dijo que si se llevaba a cabo se pondría fin a las conversaciones de paz.
