Las relaciones entre Egipto y Hamás se deterioraron gravemente desde que los militares derrocaron al ex presidente islamita, Mohamed Morsi. Un alto oficial del grupo terrorista condenó esta medida y expresó que la misma sirve a la «ocupación de israel». Tras retomar el poder en Egipto, los militares han cercenado severamente la actividad de los extremistas islámicos en ese país árabe, y además esta combatiendo contra los focos terroristas que han florecido en la península del Sinaí.
