El vicejefe del Poder Judicial envió una carta al ministro de Educación, Mahmud Vaezí, en la que le insta a filtrar esas redes o suspenderlas tras la difusión de insultos al líder supremo Alí Jameneí.
La Justicia de Irán otorgó un mes al gobierno para que controle los contenidos de aplicaciones como Whatsapp, Viber o Tango o las cierre por completo. El pasado mes de mayo, el presidente de Irán, Hasán Rohaní, ordenó que no se cerrase la red de mensajería móvil Whatsapp, después de que el organismo oficial que controla el contenido de internet anunciase que se iba a bloquear.
El ministro Vaezí señaló entonces que el Gobierno considera que no hay que prohibir las redes sociales que no sean dañinas y que, además, no tienen un equivalente local en Irán.
La carta del Poder Judicial advierte ahora al Ejecutivo de que «si el Ministerio no prepara las herramientas técnicas para filtrar los contenidos de las redes que publican contenidos criminales, la Justicia tomará la acción apropiada para bloquearlas, en línea con su deber constitucional».
La advertencia se produce después de que, en las últimas semanas, la Policía advirtiese sobre el masivo intercambio de bromas en esas redes que ridiculizan a Jomeiní, fundador de la República Islámica, y Jameneí, el máximo cargo en el país, algunas de ellas a cuenta de su reciente operación de próstata.
El Poder Judicial condena en la carta la «amplia difusión de contenidos delictivos, inmorales, contrarios a la honestidad, la ética islámica y la seguridad pública» y destaca «especialmente la amplia difusión en las ultimas semanas de contenidos ofensivos contra el fundador de la Revolución Islámica, iman Jomeiní».
Además, recuerda al ministro que ya le habían dado un plazo de tres meses para que pusiera en marcha medidas para filtrar los contenidos y crear redes sociales y de comunicación propias, puesto que las que se utilizan ahora «se dirigen desde el extranjero y por gobiernos opositores del sistema de la República Islámica».
El encontronazo es el último ejemplo del choque que el conservador Poder Judicial iraní mantiene con el Gobierno del más moderado Rohaní, que ganó las elecciones en 2013 tras prometer mayores libertades sociales.
Irán bloquea el acceso a redes sociales en internet como Facebook y Twitter, además de a millones de páginas de la red, que solo se pueden acceder desde el país a través de herramientas antibloqueo, como proxies o VPN.
