El Consejo de Seguridad está “gravemente preocupado” por la violencia en el Monte del Templo

El Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas se mostró «gravemente preocupado» a causa de la violencia que tuvo lugar en el sitio sagrado de Jerusalén e instó a la moderación y la calma.

La declaración del Consejo se produjo luego de tres días de enfrentamientos en el Monte del Templo de Jerusalén, conocido por los musulmanes como el Noble Santuario, o Haram al Sharif.

Los enfrentamientos comenzaron cuando las fuerzas de seguridad incautaron bombas de tipo caño, en el lugar, en una operación realizada horas antes de la celebración del Año Nuevo judío. El servicio de seguridad Shabak había alertado a la policía sobre el arsenal de explosivos, que formaba parte de un complot palestino de cara a una revuelta organizada.

La policía precisó que sus fuerzas entraron en el sitio después que activistas palestinos arrojaran piedras y bengalas, en la Puerta de los Magrebíes, el punto de acceso para los visitantes no musulmanes al sitio.

La declaración del Consejo de Seguridad expresa que, en el sitio, a los musulmanes «se les debe permitir hacer sus plegarias en paz, libre de violencia, amenazas y provocaciones».

También dice que «los visitantes deben estar sin temor a ser objeto de violencia o intimidación”.

«Los miembros del Consejo de Seguridad instan a ejercer la moderación, abstenerse de acciones y retóricas provocativas, y mantener sin cambios el status quo histórico» en el recinto.

El embajador de Israel ante la ONU, Ron Prosor criticó la declaración del Consejo de Seguridad por su omisión de la violencia palestina.

«Esta declaración, que sólo emplea la denominación árabe usada para el Monte del Templo, afirma el derecho de los musulmanes a estar presente y a orar en el complejo, pero ignora por completo la violencia palestina, la profunda conexión del pueblo judío con el Monte del Templo, y el derecho de todo el mundo de visitar el sitio», apuntó. «En lugar de calmar las tensiones, Consejo de Seguridad se pone del lado de los que están tratando de poner la región en llamas. Cuando los palestinos incendian el Monte del Templo, Mahmud Abbas alimenta el fuego y el Consejo de Seguridad aviva las llamas, esta es una receta para una explosión regional».
