Está película escrita y dirigida por los hermanos Ronit y Shlomi Elkabetz muestra un aspecto del Estado de Israel no muy conocido por quienes no estén familiarizados con la forma de vida israelí, en donde tanto los casamientos como los divorcios, entre personas judías, deben ser efectuados por rabinos reconocidos por el Gran Rabinato, identificado popularmente como “ortodoxo” de acuerdo a lo establecido por la Halajá, el compendio de leyes religiosas judías, debido a que no existe lo que en occidente es el casamiento civil. Aclaramos que una situación similar rige para el resto de los cultos reconocidos en el Estado de Israel.
De acuerdo a las disposiciones legales judías ambos miembros de un matrimonio pueden solicitar el divorcio, pero sólo el hombre tiene la potestad de otorgarlo, lo que es considerado por muchos miembros de la comunidad judía mundial como una manera de menoscabar a la mujer.
“Gett: El divorcio de Viviane Amsalem”, cuyo título original es “Gett, the Trial of Viviane Amsalem” es la parte final de una trilogía filmada por los hermanos Elkabetz, que se inició con To take a wife (Para tomar una esposa – 2004) y Shiva (Los siete días de duelo -2008, en las que el personaje central es Viviane Amsalem, siempre interpretada por Ronit Elkabetz.
Ronit y Shlomi Elkabetz elaboraron un drama en donde en donde el empecinamiento del marido de la protagonista, Viviane Amsalem, se niega a otorgarle el Guet, denominación hebrea del documento que establece la disolución del vínculo matrimonial, luego de varios años de separación marital, por lo que su mujer solicita al correspondiente Tribunal Rabínico que lo obligue a ello.
El Tribunal Rabínico, en cuya sede transcurre toda la película, integrado por tres daianim, rabinos con poderes de jueces, primero cumple con las disposiciones de la ley judía de tratar de restablecer el vínculo matrimonial obligando a la mujer a vivir nuevamente en la casa familiar.
Pero como no se produce ninguna mejora en la relación y la mujer insiste con el pedido de divorcio se van produciendo audiencia con lo que transcurren los meses primero, y los años después hasta que culmina la película que tiene 115 minutos de duración.
Los diálogos y las actuaciones son muy interesantes, con situaciones que por lo grotesco en más de una oportunidad motivan la risa de los espectadores, por más que en la realidad sean trágicos, tanto en los debates que se producen entre los abogados de ambas partes, como las declaraciones de los testigos, todos ellos de origen judío marroquí, lo que también les otorga una manera especial de mostrar esta faceta de la vida israelí, claramente enunciada cuando un testigo luego de contestar las preguntas de los jueces y abogados, solicita autorización al Tribunal, que le es otorgada, de estar presente mientras declara su mujer.
Un detalle, que para nosotros va mostrando el cansancio moral en el que va cayendo la protagonista, es como varía su vestimenta a lo largo del film, en especial su calzado, de elegantes sandalias al comienzo hasta un tipo de zapatillas que arrastra al caminar al final.
Filmada en el 2014, la Academia de Cine Israelí le otorgó el premio a Mejor Película y Mejor Actor de Reparto; fue nominada como la mejor película de habla no inglesa en los premios Globos de Oro y Satellite Awards; y como una de las mejores películas extranjeras del año en el premio National Board of Review; también fue presentada en los festivales Cannes: Quincena de Realizadores, de San Sebastián: Perlas y de Cine de Toronto: Sección Oficial.
