El titular de Educación, Naftalí Bennett, jefe del partido religioso nacionalista «Habait Haiehudí» (Hogar Judío), amenaza con abandonar la coalición de Gobierno del primer ministro, Biniamín Netanyahu, si éste se abstiene de nombrar un asesor militar para el Gabinete de Seguridad.
«Nosotros no pedimos cargos ni partidas presupuestarias, sólo proteger la vida de los israelíes», dijo el ministro en un acto público.
Bennett exige el nombramiento de un asesor militar para el Gabinete de Asuntos de Seguridad a raíz de la designación de Avigdor Liberman, líder de la formación «Israel Beitenu» (Israel es Nuestro Hogar) como ministro de Defensa por Netanyahu, con el objetivo de ampliar la coalición de gobierno.
Sin experiencia militar, Liberman tiene previsto jurar el cargo mañana y con la inclusión de su partido en el Ejecutivo, Netanyahu pasará a tener 66 escaños en lugar de sus actuales 61.
No obstante, Bennett ha amenazado con votar en contra de
la ampliación si Netanyahu no satisface esa y otras demandas para reestructurar el Gabinete de Seguridad, el foro más destacado del Gobierno.
«Seguiré luchando para defender a los soldados del Ejército y la ciudadanía que vive alrededor de Gaza, dentro del Gobierno o desde fuera», afirmó.
Las advertencias de Bennett son interpretadas como una puja por el poder dentro del Gobierno ahora que Lieberman se ha incorporado, lo que da menor margen de maniobra al resto de ministros.
Según la legislación, si Bennett y sus ocho diputados votan mañana en contra de la decisión del Gobierno, la votación se transformaría automáticamente en un voto de desconfianza que dejaría al Ejecutivo de Netanyahu en minoría.
En las últimas dos semanas dos ministros, uno de ellos el anterior titular de Defensa y militante del Likud de Netanyahu, han dimitido del Ejecutivo por desavenencias con el primer ministro y su decisión de incorporar a la formación de Lieberman a la coalición gubernamental.
