En el debate, el presidente de la Agencia Judía, Natan Sharansky observó que el porcentaje de inmigrantes no-judíos de acuerdo al concepto de la Halajá entre los inmigrantes de Israel es elevado y aumentará con el tiempo.
«Las cosas que he dicho en relación con la conversión de hace 20 años, son relevantes aún más hoy en día. «El gran rabino de Israel Ovadia Yosef llegó a la Comisión de Interior de la Knéset en 1976, y comentó que su padre convertía a no – judíos, sin preguntar tanto. Esa actitud abierta es de interés vital para todos nosotros, el pueblo de Israel y el Estado de Israel», añadió Sharansky. Cabe señalar que la Agencia Judía anunció la cooperación con tribunales independientes de conversión el pasado verano.
