La prohibición que impide a los líderes políticos visitar el Monte del Templo de Jerusalén sería levantada a fines de junio.
La Comisión de Ética de la Knéset (Parlamento) se dispone a votar el levantamiento de la restricción impuesta a los legisladores en el mes de octubre pasado durante la escalada de violencia en torno al Monte del Templo de Jerusalén, que incluyó ataques terroristas palestinos contra israelíes y feroces confrontaciones contra las fuerzas de seguridad en Cisjordania (Judea y Samaria).
La medida sobreviene a raíz de la declaración, el mes pasado, de varios disputados de la Lista [Árabe] Unificada, de que visitarán el Monte del Templo durante el mes sagrado musulmán de Ramadán, que comenzó el pasado 6 de junio, con o sin prohibición.
El anuncio condujo a una reunión, hace dos semanas, en la oficina del presidente de la Knéset, Yuli Edelstein, con la presencia del jefe de la policía, inspector general Roni Alsheich, y del jefe de la policía de Jerusalén, Yoram Halevy, en la cual los altos oficiales señalaron que ya no se oponen más a tales visitas, citando nuevas evaluaciones de inteligencia que indican que ya no es probable que las visitas de los políticos a los sitios sagrados en el Monte del Templo desencadenen una reactivación de la violencia.
En una solución de compromiso, propuesta por la policía, los diputados musulmanes recibirían autorización para volver a visitar el sitio durante la última semana de Ramadán -correspondiente a la primera semana de julio- y los legisladores judíos podrían renovar sus visitas la semana siguiente.
La policía evaluará luego el impacto de las visitas antes de decidir sobre los futuros accesos al sitio.
