Relatos Jasídicos. Sucot: »Nunca demuela una sucá»


Una epidemia terrible se desató de Nadvorna cuando Sucot estaba acercándose, y los médicos advirtieron a los ciudadanos que tomaran todas las precauciones higiénicas por miedo al contagio. El juez local, un hombre excepcionalmente diabólico, se enteró de que Rabi Mordejai de Nadvorna acababa de construir una Sucá. Despachó una orden judicial para demolerla, pues contradecía las regulaciones de salud municipales. El Nadvorner Rebe ignoró el mensaje.

Luego, una escuadra de policía llegó a su domicilio para advertirle de las consecuencias de su desafío. Él contestó: “Construí mi Sucá para que esté en pie, no para que deba demolerse.”

El juez llamó al Tzadik. Cuando esto también fue ignorado, el juez decidió lanzarse personalmente sobre su víctima. Le ordenó al Rabino de manera áspera que desmantelara la Sucá , y le advirtió del severo castigo. Las amenazas no estremecieron al tzadik en absoluto. Éste contestó fríamente con las mismas palabras que les había dicho a los policías: “He construido la Sucá para que esté en pie, no para que deba demolerse” y agregó: “Me gustaría que supiera que Rabi Meir de Premishlan era mi tío abuelo”.

El juez voló de rabia: “¿ A quién le importa quién era su tío abuelo? ¡Inmediatamente demuela esa cosa!”

El Nadvorner serenamente le pidió que esperara un momento, pues deseaba contarle una historia.

El juez, sorprendido, asintió, y Rabi Mordejai empezó: “Un sacerdote tenía diez hijos, todos robustos y fuertes como cedros. Y poseía un parque grande y bonito, lleno de árboles encantadores. Un día decidió que agregaría gracia a este bosquecillo, plantando un poco de flores en el jardín contiguo. Arrancó algunos de sus árboles, y en su lugar plantó perfumadas flores. Pero cuando el trabajo estuvo terminado sus hijos cayeron enfermos. Primero el mayor se debilitó y murió, entonces el segundo, y así sucesivamente, hasta que el más joven cayó enfermo. El sacerdote estaba desesperado. Convocó a los doctores más especialistas, e incluso los hechiceros fueron consultados, pero sin efecto. Varias personas le aconsejaron que visitara a Rabí Meir de Premishlan. ¿Quién sabe? Quizás la salvación podría venir a través de él, pues tenía reputación de hombre santo. No tenía ninguna alternativa. Así que con el corazón destrozado viajó a Premishlan.

Llegando allí le contó al Rebe todo lo que había ocurrido – y que ahora incluso su último hijo estaba mortalmente enfermo, y ningún médico podía curarlo. Sólo el Cielo podría ayudarlo.

«Usted tenía un jardín bonito lleno de árboles graciosos” Rabi Meir dijo, “pero debido a que quiso un jardín de flores, usted cortó los árboles de Di-s. Y es por eso que Él ha cortado sus árboles, “pues el hombre es un árbol del campo”. Pero aún estamos a tiempo. Su hijo será ayudado desde el Cielo, y se curará pronto”.

El Tzadik oró a Di-s para que sanara el joven, y que Su Nombre se santifique. La Plegaria fue aceptada, y el hijo se convirtió en adulto.

“Quiero que sepa,” Rabi Mordejai concluyó su historia, “que usted es el hijo de ese sacerdote. Dígame, ¿es esta la manera en que usted devuelve la compasión que mi tío abuelo le concedió salvando su vida?”

El juez cayó a sus pies, y lloró. “¡Es verdad, reconozco todo!” sollozó. “Perdóneme, Rabino, por lo que le he hecho. ¡Puede construir diez de esas cosas – pero sólo si me promete que me perdonará!”

La promesa fue dada, el juez se retiró, y el Rebe de Nadvorna disfrutó su Sucá en paz.
