Hace más de 23 siglos (año 3404 después de la Creación –año 450 antes de la e.c.), cuando el Imperio Persa dominaba al mundo civilizado, el pueblo judío fue salvado del decreto urdido por Hamán, Primer Ministro del Rey Ajashverosh (Asuero), para aniquilar a todos los judíos que habitaban los 127 países que formaban el imperio.
Cada año, el 14 de Adar, celebramos Purim para conmemorar con fiestas y alegría la salvación que ocurrió al pueblo judío e hizo que la misma fecha fijada por el azar de la lotería (‘pur’, de donde derivar la palabra ‘Purim’) para la ejecución del plan asesino; se transformara en un día de salvación que, a través de todas las generaciones, ha servido como un rayo de esperanza y estímulo a las comunidades judías oprimidas por otros países a lo largo de la historia. Purim no sólo es una de las festividades más alegres, sino que es un día de gran significación, cuyas enseñanzas son válidas en todos los tiempos.
La Mishná establece que “el que lee la Meguilá hacia atrás no cumple con su obligación”; el Baal Shem Tov explica ese pasaje diciendo que aquel que lee la meguilá pensando que los eventos relatados solo sucedieron en el pasado, y que el milagro no es relevante en nuestros días, no cumple con su obligación, ya que el propósito de la lectura es el de instruir al judío cómo debe comportarse siempre, en el pasado, presente y futuro.
El patrón de respuesta de la comunidad judía persa frente al decreto exterminador, está compuesto por varios elementos que nos aleccionan sobre la manera de proceder frente a los ataques de los “Hamanes” en todas las generaciones, cuando somos acusados por ser un pueblo que, a pesar de su dispersión, vive separado y tiene sus propias leyes. Estos elementos son: LA TESHUVA COLECTIVA, MEDIANTE EL AYUNO Y EL ARREPENTIMIENTO.
La unión del pueblo no era suficiente. La firmeza de Mordejai en no abandonar los eternos valores de la Torá, aún con el riesgo de su vida; el esfuerzo de enseñar Torá a los niños y el llamado al pueblo para que observe Torá y Mitzvot y de este modo fortalezca su relación con Di-s, fue determinante para la salvación. Lo mismo sucede con la actitud de Ester cuando hace un llamado al pueblo para que ayune durante tres días y ella ayuna también.
Tanto Mordejai como Ester sabían que el decreto de exterminio no era accidental, producido por eventos humanos, sino que por el contrario, como suele suceder cuando los judíos enfrentan problemas, eran resultado de su alejamiento de la Torá que los llevó a realizar acciones indebidas, cuyo efecto no podía ser eliminado, sin atacar la causa.
La asimilación de los judíos tuvo su punto culminante al acudir a la fiesta celebrada por Ajashverosh, disfrutar de ella, comer y beber con los demás pueblos. La contrapartida para el arrepentimiento era ayunar, no comer ni beber; el arrepentimiento unido al despertar del pueblo hacia el cumplimiento de la Torá y las Mitzvot, y su consiguiente fortalecimiento espiritual durante el año anterior a la ejecución, hizo que por medio de la Teshuvá los judíos revelaran su esencia y se eliminara la causa que dio motivo al decreto.
Esfuerzos Diplomáticos:
Una vez borrada a través de la Teshuva la causa del decreto que daría lugar a la “solución final”, es cuando Ester antecede ante el rey por la salvación de su pueblo. Debe recordarse la situación privilegiada y segura que tenían los judíos antes del decreto de aniquilación. Ester era la reina del imperio y Mordejai, presidente del Sanhedrín y persona apreciada por el rey. Sin embargo ellos no interceden en primera instancia frente al rey, como era lógico pensar, sino que primero ponen énfasis en borrar la causa y sólo luego recurren al rey, constituyéndose en los instrumentos a través de los cuales se produce la salvación del pueblo, lo cual demuestra que no se debe confiar en los Ajashverosh de cada época, sino, en la firme adhesión de los judíos a Di-s.
La lectura de la Meguilá en donde se narran todos los acontecimientos de Purim, pudiera parecer el recuento histórico de hechos que nada tienen que ver con la Divinidad, máxime cuando en todo el libro no se menciona el nombre de Di-s ni siquiera una sola vez. Sin embargo, sabemos que uno de los principios básicos del Judaísmo es el reconocimiento del control de Di-s sobre el universo creado por El, en donde nada ocurre fuera de Su voluntad o por coincidencia o accidente. Ese control es ejercido a través de los patrones, el de la naturaleza, ordenamiento del creador para que todo funcione en forma identificable y predecible y el de milagro, fuerza natural impredecible que puede ser obvia. Como en el caso del milagro de Januca, u oculta como en el caso de el milagro de Purim.
El Talmud establece el carácter milagroso de los hechos acontecidos en Purim, al explicar que Ester en hebreo significa ocultamiento y Meguilá, Revelación, por lo tanto la Meguilat Ester es la revelación del ocultamiento de la voluntad de Di-s y Purim la ocasión en el año cuando, realizando las acciones ordinarias naturales que estamos llamados a cumplir (lectura de la Meguilá, envío de comestibles, ayuda a los pobres y comida festiva) reconocemos su carácter extraordinario, porque aluden a la manera especial en la que Di-s está eternamente presente en todos los eventos y circunstancias, aún cuando a veces no lo percibimos. Purim nos enseña que cada evento de nuestra vida, debe ser objeto de nuestra atenta consideración para poder identificar en él la atención divina que tiene siempre un potencial para el bien.
