Sobreviviente del holocausto conoce a su último familiar vivo

Cuando Drew Principe, un joven del sur de california encontró que su amigo, quien es un sobreviviente del holocausto nunca había regresado a Israel, se llenó de determinación para ayudarle a regresar y encontrar a su último pariente vivo. Principe hizo amistad con Henry Oster de 89 años durante la asamblea de la escuela a principios de este año. En donde Oster habló a los estudiantes de punto alto, cerca a los Ángeles acerca de su vida y su lucha durante el Holocausto.

En 1941, Oster y su familia, fueron deportados a su hogar en colonia, Alemania por las fuerzas Nazis, unas pocas semanas antes de su cumpleaños 13, perdió su “bar mitzvá”.

Llevado al gueto Lodz en Polonia, el padre de Oster acabó muriendo de hambre, así que él y su madre fueron enviados a Auschwitz en donde su madre encontró un fatal destino en las cámaras de gas. Oster luego sería enviado a varios campos hasta que fue liberado a los 17 años por el ejército norteamericano en Buchenwald para luego ser enviado a un orfanato en Francia y después fue dejado al cuidado de un tío que vivía en Estados Unidos, terminó sus estudios y se convirtió en optómetra, carrera de la cual se retiró en el 2007.

Oster mencionó que en ningún momento regresó a Israel, el hecho sorprendió bastante a Principe, quien quería colaborarle con algo, cualquier cosa que pudiera tener en el momento para que él se sintiera cerca de su país de origen. El joven se reunió con Oster después de la lectura y le compartió un brazalete que había recibido durante un viaje a Israel, sobre él había una oración inscrita “Shema”. Tal gesto lo dejó sin palabras.

“No suelo llevar alajas, acepté este obsequio sólo por el Shema», expresó Oster de acuerdo con Ventura County Star.

Con la ayuda de los oficiales de la escuela Oster pudo agradecerle a Principe correctamente, esto dio paso a que establecieran lazos estrechos de amistad.

Asumiendo que Oster quería visitar Israel, Principe escribió una carta a su familia para pedir ayuda y así recaudó US $ 15.000.

“Este suceso unió a la comunidad”, dijo Principe.

Oster viajará a Israel con Principe y su familia, una vez allí podrá conocer a un primo que vive en Tel Aviv, su último pariente vivo.
