Con su peluca y su pollera larga, Sivan Rahav-Meir conduce todas las noches uno de los noticieros con más rating de Israel , en el canal 2. La periodista, una de las más reconocidas del país, admite es inusual ver a una judía ortodoxa en el prime time de la televisión y que muchas veces la llamaron «rara» por combinar su religión con el periodismo.
Pero a ella no le importan las críticas. Esta mujer de 36 años cuenta que eligió reinventarse y conectarse con su audiencia de otra manera. De visita en Buenos Aires, con motivo de «la noche de la mujer judía», un evento que realizó Beit Jana (rama femenina de Jabad Argentina), en el CCK, el 12 de marzo pasado, Rahav-Meir conversó con LA NACION sobre varios temas.
Abordó la crisis del periodismo, fue categórica sobre el conflicto palestino-israelí -«no pueden matar a nuestros bebes, madres y padres e ir a la ONU y pedir un país», dijo- y habló sobre el caso Nisman, un tema «que preocupa mucho en Israel».
Aunque la periodista dice que vino al país para hablar sobre judaísmo y sobre el «conflicto de ser una mujer de carrera, una esposa y una madre», también enfatiza que quiere escuchar a la gente. Quiere saber más sobre la Argentina y en especial sobre el caso del fiscal Nisman. «En Israel estamos preocupados por su asesinato. El caso es fascinante para nosotros. Parece una película. ¿Qué paso acá? Primero un acto de terrorismo, después una presidenta que quiere ocultar lo que realmente pasó y después hay un judío que investiga el caso y es asesinado o se suicida un día antes del juicio. No se puede creer», resume.

Hasta hace dos años, Rahav-Meir se consideraba una «típica periodista objetiva, tradicional y aburrida». Pero en medio de la licencia por el nacimiento de su quinto hijo decidió hacer un giro en su profesión. «Durante mucho tiempo fui todas las mañana al Parlamento y a la Corte Suprema y le contaba a mi audiencia lo que sucedía. Pero me di cuenta de que la gente no me necesitaba para que les contara lo que pasaba porque podían averiguarlo solos. Entonces empecé a pensar nuevas formas de traer nuevos mensajes y se me ocurrió escribir sobre judaísmo en Facebook, Twitter y en WhastApp», sostiene.
«Quería hablar de Abraham, Isaac y Jacob de la manera en que hablo de Netanyahu», dice la periodista. Su idea de usar las redes sociales fue un éxito y se le ocurrió ir más allá: organizó encuentros donde habla de la Torá en vivo. Hoy unas 700 personas se reúnen en Jerusalén semanalmente para escucharla. Además, como el evento se transmite por Facebook Live, miles de personas la siguen desde Nueva York, Londres, Copenhague y hasta la Argentina.
El próximo paso de Rahav-Meir fue llevar su experiencia al noticiero. «Mis jefes me dijeron: ‘esto es viral y popular, nos puede traer rating, hagámoslo'», cuenta Rahav-Meir, que señala que el público está más interesado en lo que tiene para decir ahora que antes.
Aunque el año pasado, en una encuesta realizada por la revista femenina Globes, Rahav-Meir fue elegida como la periodista más querida de Israel aún recibe muchas criticas por mezclar religión con periodismo. «En Israel me dicen que soy rara, que no sigo las reglas, pero ¿quién inventó esas reglas? El periodismo es un concepto amplio y yo hago las cosas en forma diferente. Los periodistas deben reinventarse para intentar pensar qué cosa única pueden aportar a su trabajo», sostiene.
Netanyahu, Trump y el conflicto israelí-palestino
Para Rahav-Mei, uno de los problemas de los noticieros tradicionales es que solo se habla de noticias negativas. «Al principio del programa decimos buenas noches y después durante una hora demostramos por qué esa noche no es buena», agrega. Luego habla sobre uno de los temas que tiene en vilo al país: las cuatro acusaciones de corrupción contra Netanyahu.
En un caso, al primer ministro lo acusan de recibir millonarios regalos de parte de empresarios a cambio de favores. En el segundo, de haber hecho un acuerdo secreto con el propietario de Yediot Aharonot, el diario israelí más importante, para una cobertura favorable a sus intereses. Hay un tercer caso vinculado a la compra de submarinos a Alemania y un cuarto caso en el que se sospecha que Netanyahu recibió una cobertura positiva de la agencia Walla a cambio de favores a su propietario.
La periodista tiene la sensación de que hay dos primeros ministros en uno. «Uno es muy popular, viaja por todo el mundo en representación de Israel e hizo grandes cosas en el país. Tiene buenas relaciones con [el presidente norteamericano] Donald Trump , con [el presidente ruso] Vladimir Putin y con [la canciller alemana] Angela Merkel . También tuvo una muy buena visita en la Argentina. Pero el otro primer ministro, que también es Netanyahu, tiene cuatro investigaciones diferentes por corrupción y creo que es difícil que esto quede en la nada.Ya tuvimos un primer ministro y un presidente que fueron presos», agrega.
Sobre el conflicto palestino-israelí, Rahav-Meir es categórica. «Si los palestinos hubieran abandonado la violencia, podrían haber tenido un Estado hace 50 años; fue su decisión. No pueden matar a nuestros bebes, madres y padres e ir a la ONU y pedir un país. Yo entiendo que se puede compartir y tener un compromiso con ellos, pero mi seguridad está primero», sostiene. Para ella, «cada metro que Israel les cede a los palestinos lo convierten en terror, en menos democracia y en menos derechos para los chicos».
«Nos dan misiles, Hamas , bombas. Ellos quieren más y más tierras, pero debemos parar. Si ellos quieren trabajar junto con nosotros, el cielo es el límite, ¿pero cómo se los puede ayudar si ellos optan por el camino del terror?», se pregunta.
En ese sentido, la periodista dice que concuerda con el discurso de Trump. «Creo que tiene un discurso nuevo. Él dice: ‘los palestinos eligieron el terror y no hay que darle regalos. Ustedes son los buenos y ellos son malos en este vecindario que se llama Medio Oriente y Jerusalén es su capital y los asentimientos no son parte de este problema’. Creo que entiende la cuestión básica», concluye.
