La ministra israelí de Cultura y Deportes, Miri Reguev, insistió en que Eurovisión se debe celebrar en Jerusalén y, si no, deberá tener lugar fuera de Israel, después de que el país ganase la última edición de la mano de Netta Barzilai y su canción Toy.
«Recomendaré al Gobierno que, si Eurovisión no se puede celebrar en Jerusalén, no seamos los anfitriones», dijo la ministra en una entrevista recogida este jueves por el Jerusalem Post, en la que agregó que «la Unión de Radiodifusión Europea (EBU) no puede decidir dónde celebrará Israel Eurovisión».

Las palabras de Reguev se producen días después de que la selección argentina cancelase un amistoso con la israelí previsto para el sábado, tras el cambio de ubicación de Haifa a Jerusalén y la presión recibida por grupos de boicot y amenazas a los jugadores y sus familiares.
El concurso musical europeo «cuesta a Israel 50 millones de shékels (unos 12 millones de euros). Está diseñado para hacer publicidad del país. Es un show bello que trae aquí a todos los países. Personalmente creo que, si no es en Jerusalén, sería un error invertir esos fondos públicos. Jerusalén es la capital del Estado de Israel y no debemos avergonzarnos de ello», declaró Reguev.
