El Gobierno de Colombia que preside Juan Manuel Santos reconoció a Palestina como un “Estado libre, independiente y soberano” y con ello se convirtió en el último país sudamericano en hacerlo, informaron este miércoles fuentes diplomáticas.
“Esta decisión es profundamente agradecida por el pueblo palestino y su Gobierno, quienes siempre han visto a Colombia y a su pueblo como hermanos infatigables en la búsqueda de la paz”, afirmó en un comunicado la misión diplomática de Palestina en Bogotá.
“La información agregó que “la decisión del reconocimiento es el sinónimo de un profundo trabajo de acercamiento entre los Gobiernos colombiano y palestino, esfuerzo que hoy da sus frutos y que sin lugar a dudas será fortalecido en el futuro próximo para bien de ambos pueblos”.
La misión dijo, además, que la decisión del país cafetero “aportará significativamente para generar las condiciones necesarias en la búsqueda de la paz en Medio Oriente”.
Alexander Montero, asesor político de la embajada de Palestina en Colombia, explica que la decisión se toma luego de un esfuerzo largo y de conversaciones con varios gobiernos colombianos. La Autoridad Palestina ha tenido representación diplomática en Colombia desde hace 22 años.
La medida que fue anunciada este miércoles es una decisión del Estado colombiano y respaldada por el gobiernos de Santos. “Si bien es cierto que el gobierno de Santos es quien propone dar ese paso, es muy importante que se haga público el día de hoy porque es un gesto de gran amistad de parte del gobierno entrante”, explicó Montero
La carta de reconocimiento de Palestina como Estado, se firmó el pasado 3 de agosto por la entonces canciller María Angela Holguín, durante el gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos.
“Colombia no ha sido ajena al conflicto entre Israel y Palestina. Hemos demostrado nuestro invariable interés desde hace 70 años. En Naciones Unidas hemos apoyado las resoluciones que tratan sobre la Cuestión Palestina”, dice la misiva.
“Somos conscientes de las dificultades y sufrimientos que ha enfrentado la población palestina. También reconocemos que para la construcción gradual de su Estado la unidad de la nación palestina es un imperativo y esperamos que las condiciones internas sigan dándose para superar los desafíos que se presentan en el camino”, explica el Ministerio de Relaciones colombiano.
Según la excanciller colombiana María Ángela Holguín, quien ayer dejó el cargo al terminar el Gobierno de Juan Manuel Santos, el lunes pasado, en el último día de su Administración le envió una nota al secretario general de la Naciones Unidas, António Guterres, y al ministro de relaciones exteriores palestino, Riad Malki, notificándoles la decisión.
“Nosotros éramos el único país, yo le diría de toda América Latina, pues Panamá no ha reconocido, pero del resto de América Latina absolutamente todos habían reconocido, y en el mundo vamos a ser el número 138 o 139. Eso se hizo el lunes”, afirmó Holguín en una entrevista con el programa “Pregunta Yamid”, que será divulgada esta noche
Duque durante su campaña se mostró abierto a la posibilidad de reconocer a Jerusalem como capital de Israel.
Durante la campaña presidencial, el Ahora presidente Iván Duque aseguró varias veces que “Colombia no puede atizar el odio en el Medio Oriente…Debemos contribuir a la solución anhelada de tener los dos estados…. Todo lo que pueda hacer en esa dirección lo haré por reconocimiento por los dos pueblos”.
Se suponía que Duque tendría una excelente relación con Netanyahu que recientemente visito Colombia y México y que pensaba realizar unos días otro viaje a ese país, el cual tuvo que suspender por razones internas en Israel
