Assad Ahmad Barakat, el tesorero del Hezbollah: un documento prueba que financiaba el terrorismo desde la Triple Frontera

El libanés Ahmad Barakat era el chofer de un ascendente político en los años setenta, pero dejó todo cuando empezó la guerra civil en El Libano: no quería que su familia sufriera las heridas de una guerra que no era suya. El hombre se refugió con su hijo, Assad Ahmad Barakat, apenas un adolescente, en Paraguay. En su país, mientras tanto, la violencia continuó hasta los ochenta, Israel puso las botas en el campo de batalla y los chiítas crearon Hezbollah. Ahmad nunca imaginó que Assad lo traicionaría hasta convertirse poco tiempo después en el «tesorero» del grupo terrorista en la Triple Frontera.

La transferencia de Assad a la «Organización del mártir» de Hezbollah

El día de la primavera, Assad fue detenido en la Triple Frontera: era el hombre más buscado de Hezbollah.

TN.com.ar publica por primera vez una copia de una transferencia que este «tesorero» realizó en favor de su jefe de Hezbollah. Assad le envió US$ 50.000 en 1999 desde su cuenta en el Banco Integración SA -con sede en Ciudad del Este- a la cuenta de Khalil Saleh en el Byblos Bank -de Ghobery

Ese mismo año, Hamzie Ahmad Barakat, hermano de Assad, también le giró US$ 45.000 a Saleh, según el extracto al que tuvo acceso en exclusiva este medio y que consta en el expediente abierto por aquella época en Paraguay.

La fiscalía especializada en Narcotráfico y Terrorismo ordenó en 2001 detener a Assad por evasión de impuestos sospechando que detrás de ese delito podrían esconderse otros peores: la Agencia Central de Inteligencia (la CIA de los Estados Unidos) le advirtió sobre la posible conexión entre Barakat, Hezbollah y el atentado contra los Torres Gemelas. Los policías lo fueron a buscar a Ciudad del Este, pero ya no estaba. Cayó tiempo después en Foz de Iguazú, fue condenado a seis años de prisión y recuperó la libertad en 2008.

Lo que sí encontraron en Casa Apolo, uno de sus negocios, fue otro documento que confirmó su pertenencia al grupo extremista. Hassan Nasrallah le escribió el 25 de mayo de 2001 a Assad: «Les agradezco su aporte y su apoyo continuo en el cuidado de los hijos de aquellos que cumplieron en su compromiso con Dios resultando mártires, sacrificaron su generosa sangre, dándonos la honra y el orgullo, de esta forma sus puras almas serán el sendero de nuestro pueblo y nuestra Patria al triunfo celestial, querido y duradero. Su apoyo es una verdadera muestra de la fidelidad del pueblo fiel, los cuales poseen todos los valores de los mártires y de la guerra santa. Pido al supremo Dios, que aceptó su trabajo de la mejor forma, que nos incluya en la bendición de estos puros mártires».

Nasrallah es ni más ni menos que el secretario general de Hezbollah desde 1992 luego de que las fuerzas israelíes abatieron a Abbas al-Musawi. La traducción del mensaje escrito en tinta negra sobre un pergamino de color rojo fue realizada por Mohamad Kaied por pedido de la fiscalía.

Un asistente ejecutivo de Assad, Sobhi Mohmaud Fayad, también financió la «Organización del mártir» para ayudar a los huérfanos de Hezbollah. En total fueron US$ 3.535.149 en el 2000. Fayad, condenado en 2002 por evasión, ahora es investigado por falsificar documentos, al igual que su jefe.

El Departamento del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos incluyó en 2004 en la lista negra de la Oficina de Control de Bienes Extranjeros (OFAC) a Barakat, Casa Apolo, Galería Page (Ciudad del Este, Paraguay) y Barakat Importadora Exportadora Limitada (de Iquique, Chile). Este año sumó a Nasrallah porque Hezbollah entrenó a las fuerzas del Gobierno de Siria para «reprimir violentamente a la población civil».

La secretaría de Inteligencia de la Argentina (exSIDE) también le aportó información a la fiscalía de Paraguay: Assad habló 16 veces por teléfono con Samuel Salman El Reda entre octubre de 1993 y junio de 1994, es decir, después del atentado en la Embajada de Israel y antes de la voladura de la AMIA. «El Reda», identidad falsa de uno de los presuntos autores ideológicos, escapó de la Argentina el mismo día del segundo atentado.

El fiscal Alberto Nisman le solicitó en 2009 a la Organización Internacional de Policía Criminal (Interpol) la detención de «El Reda». Cuatro años después, en su informe sobre «las redes terroristas iraníes en América Latina»,apuntó: «Otro de los comerciantes, miembro de Hezbollah, cuyas actividades han coadyuvado al financiamiento de la agrupación, resulta ser Assad Ahmad Barakat, quien además se encontraba vinculado con el imputado Samuel Salman El Reda».

La Unidad de Información Financiera de la Argentina (UIF) les embargó este año los bienes a 14 «presuntos financistas» del Hezbollah al descubrir que ganaron US$ 10 millones desde 2012 en Casino Iguazú -de Misiones- sin declararlos al salir del país. Los árabes en la mira son: cuatro Barakat, Hassan, Jomaa, Ismail, Youssef, Jaber, Fawaz, Ibrahim, Melhem, Eddine y Hachem.

Ali Hassan Barakat, el líder del grupo que habría lavado dinero en ese casino, es primo de Assad Ahmad Barakat.
