El presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, envió el domingo un mensaje a los judíos de todo el mundo en el inicio de la fiesta de Janucá, la Fiesta de las Luces, recordando las víctimas del tiroteo en una sinagoga en Pittsburgh el 27 de octubre.
«Melania y yo enviamos nuestros más calurosos saludos a nuestros hermanos y hermanas judíos en Estados Unidos, en Israel y en el mundo entero por ocasión de la fiesta de Janucá», escribió el mandatario en un mensaje.
«Lamentablemente, los judíos actualmente siguen enfrentando diferentes formas de violencia, odio e intolerancia en el mundo», agregó.
«Pensamos en todos los miembros de la congregación de Tree of Life -Or L’Simcha- que trágicamente perdieron la vida en Pittsburgh en octubre», señaló.
Robert Bowers, un estadounidense de 46 años, cometió el ataque antisemita más mortífero de las últimas décadas en Estados Unidos, asesinando a balazos a 11 judíos que se encontraban reunidos en esa sinagoga.
Cada año en los jardines sur de la Casa Blanca, una menoráh gigante (un candelabro con nueve brazos) se levanta iluminada durante los ocho días de la fiesta.
