El primer ministro de Israel, Benjamín Netanyahu, se reunió este domingo con algunos de los principales líderes evangélicos de Brasil, como Silas Malafaia y Manoel Ferreira, así como de la Iglesia Católica, representada por el arzobispo de Río de Janeiro, Orani Tempesta, en el tercer día de su visita al país sudamericano.
“Ustedes son nuestros hermanos, no tenemos amigos mejores que los evangélicos, y los evangélicos no tienen mejor amigo que el Estado de Israel. Si usted es cristiano en Oriente Medio, sólo tiene un lugar en el que estará seguro, que es el Estado de Israel. Tenemos una herencia común”, dijo Netanyahu, en el mismo recinto donde poco antes recibió a líderes de la comunidad judía del país y donde afirmó que Bolsonaró le garantizó el traslado de la embajada de Brasil en Israel hacia Jerusalén.
Netanyahu señaló a la audiencia la coincidencia existente entre el nombre del nuevo presidente brasileño y el de su hijo mayor, Yair, y dijo que tal y como su significado en hebreo original sugiere, “aquél que trae la luz”, así mismo Bolsonaro será una luz tanto para Brasil como para Israel.
En su intervención, el pastor Silas Malafaia, líder de la iglesia cristiana Asamblea de Dios – Victoria en Cristo, afirmó que el apoyo electoral de la comunidad evangélica al presidente electo, Jair Bolsonaro, sólo ocurrió a causa del apoyo que este mantiene hacia Israel. “Jerusalén es la eterna e indivisible capital de Israel”, dijo Malafaia, y aseguró que no habría habido apoyo de la comunidad evangélica a Bolsonaro sin la agenda pro-Israel. “Nuestro apoyo a Bolsonaro es el resultado de que apoye a Israel”, afirmó Malafaia.
El gran apoyo de la comunidad cristiana evangélica hacia Bolsonaro es visto como un factor clave del triunfo de este en las urnas el pasado mes de octubre. El porcentaje de quienes se identificaron como evangélicos en Brasil ha aumentado del 6.6% que constituían en el año de 1980, para el 22.2% en el año 2010, alcanzando una cifra de casi 42 millones actualmente en un país de 123 millones. Políticamente hablando, en el Congreso de Brasil está presente un grupo legislativo evangélico que representa casi una quinta parte de la cámara.
El alcalde de Río de Janeiro, Marcelo Crivella, y también pastor de la Iglesia Universal del Reino de Dios, abrió el encuentro con Netanyahu. “No tengo palabras para describir lo que Israel representa para nosotros, rezamos por su país todos los días”, afirmó Crivella, dirigiéndose al primer ministro israelí. El tío de Crivella, el obispo Edir Macedo, es el jefe de esta agrupación cristiana con una alta influencia en Brasil, y de igual manera apoyó totalmente a Bolsonaro en la campaña electoral. Fue en la cadena televisiva de Macedo, Record TV, donde Bolsonaro otorgó su primera entrevista tras las elecciones.
Uno de los puntos más importantes de igual manera en el que Bolsonaro y los evangélicos mantienen un foco en común, es el Estado de Israel. “En su escatología, la creación del Estado de Israel, la unificación de Jerusalén y su reconocimiento como la capital, la reconstrucción del Tercer Templo…Para ellos, todo esto acelerará el regreso de Jesús”, dijo en mayo pasado Marta F. Topel, académica de la Universidad de Sao Paulo, al sitio The Times of Israel. De acuerdo a un reciente reporte del periódico israelí Haaretz, cristianos evangélicos han destinado en la última década cerca de 65 millones de dólares para beneficio de los asentamientos israelíes en Cisjordania.
El martes, Netanyahu viaja a Brasilia, donde se reunirá con el secretario de Estado de EE.UU., Mike Pompeo, previo a la ceremonia de toma de posesión del presidente Bolsonaro. Una hora después, se reunirá con otros dignatarios que estarán presentes en la posesión. Durante la tarde, irá a un cóctel ofrecido por Bolsonaro y se reunirá también con el presidente chileno, Sebastián Piñera.
