El 13 de junio de 2006 AMIA abría oficialmente las puertas de su Centro Integral de Adultos Mayores «Jofesh», e inauguraba así su sede de la calle Uriburu 650, donde hoy funcionan además las oficinas del departamento de Programas Sociales y su Servicio de Empleo.
Hace 13 años, con la inauguración del Centro de Día «Jofesh» la institución ponía en marcha un ambicioso e innovador proyecto para mejorar la atención de un considerable número de adultos mayores, quienes -a través una gestión profesional- comenzaron a tener a su disposición, en un mismo lugar, una amplia variedad de propuestas recreativas, culturales y terapéuticas, además de servicios sociales y de salud de calidad.
Construido sin barreras arquitectónicas y con plena accesibilidad, la sede del Centro “Jofesh” es escenario de múltiples actividades pensadas y diseñadas para dar respuesta a los desafíos que hoy plantea el incremento de la longevidad. Diariamente se promueven diferentes programas para que esta etapa de la vida pueda ser vivida con dignidad y plenitud. Desde comedia musical, danzas modernas, computación, jardinería, hasta ciclo de películas, taller literario, yoga y expresión corporal, las actividades están pensadas y diseñadas para que los adultos mayores puedan mantenerse activos y vitales.
El Centro «Jofesh» recibe a más de 500 personas por semana. Apoyado en una sólida estructura profesional e interdisciplinaria con formación gerontológica, el lugar es hoy una referencia en la región en términos de atención integral y profesional a la también llamada «cuarta edad» y el mejoramiento de su calidad de vida.
Desde el área de Adultos Mayores de AMIA, que depende del Departamento de Programas Sociales, destacaron principalmente los beneficios que presenta el funcionamiento de un Centro de Día apoyado en un modelo de funcionamiento, que cuenta con supervisión permanente. Entre ellos: el mantenimiento del nivel de autonomía de los adultos mayores, la prevención de la institucionalización, el apoyo social y asistencial a las familias, el fomento de la socialización y la participación, y el hecho de compartir un espacio activo con sus pares.
