El niño que dirigió la División Feuerkrieg vivía en Estonia y aparentemente cortó lazos con el grupo después de que las autoridades en ese pequeño estado báltico lo confrontaron a principios de este año, según la policía y un informe de un periódico estonio.
Harrys Puusepp, portavoz del Servicio de Seguridad Interna de Estonia, comunicó el jueves que la agencia policial «intervino a principios de enero por «sospecha de peligro», y «suspendió las actividades de esta persona» en la División Feuerkrieg.
«Como el caso trató de un niño menor de 14 años, esta persona no puede ser procesada bajo la ley penal y en su lugar se deben usar otros métodos legales para eliminar el riesgo. La cooperación entre varias autoridades, y especialmente los padres, es importante para alejar a un niño del extremismo violento», explicó Puusepp, quien no especificó la edad del niño ni dio detalles sobre el caso.
El portavoz de la policía no identificó al niño como líder del grupo, pero filtró archivos de los chats en línea de los miembros de la División Feuerkrieg muestran que «Comandante» se refería a sí mismo como el fundador del grupo y aludía a ser de Saaremaa, la isla más grande de Estonia.
Un informe publicado el miércoles por el semanario estonio Eesti Ekspress mostró que los funcionarios de seguridad estonios habían investigado un caso que involucraba a un niño de 13 años que presuntamente dirigía las operaciones de la División Feuerkrieg en una pequeña ciudad del país. Oren Segal, vicepresidente del Centro de Extremismo de ADL, dijo que los niños no son solo un público objetivo para foros en línea que glorifican la supremacía y la violencia de los blancos. También mantienen dichos sitios, cautivados por su capacidad de unirse o influir en un movimiento internacional desde una computadora doméstica.

Los miembros de la División Feuerkrieg se comunicaron a través de la plataforma en línea Wire. El FBI utilizó fuentes confidenciales para infiltrarse en los chats encriptados del grupo, según los registros de la corte federal.
Un grupo de trabajo conjunto contra el terrorismo del FBI en Las Vegas comenzó a investigar a Conor Climo, de 24 años, en abril de 2019 después de enterarse de que se estaba comunicando a través de Wire con miembros de la División Feuerkrieg, según un documento de la corte. Climo declaró a una fuente del FBI sobre los planes para incendiar una sinagoga y atacar una oficina local de ADL.
El joven de 24 años espera su sentencia luego de declararse culpable en febrero de posesión de un arma de fuego no registrada.
Otro hombre vinculado a la División Feuerkrieg, el soldado del ejército estadounidense Jarrett William Smith, se declaró culpable de haber proporcionado información sobre explosivos a un agente encubierto del FBI mientras estaba estacionado en Fort Riley, Kansas, el año pasado.
