Lag Baomer, una festividad muy especial para Israel y la comunidad judía de todo el mundo.

El día 33 de la cuenta del Omer, acontece Lag BaOmer (valor de las letras lamed y guímel del alfabeto hebreo) y es una fecha festiva del calendario judío, considerada menor pues no existen disposiciones halájicas (legales) que la rijan, si bien está mencionada en el Talmud como el día en que concluyó la muerte de los 24.000 alumnos de Rabí Akiva hace más de 1.870 años , y del fallecimiento de rabí Shimón bar Iojái, un gran erudito, discípulo de Rabí Akiva y considerado el autor de los libros del “Zóhar”, el libro base de la Kabalá.

El Omer (traducido comúnmente como gavilla) era una medida de cebada, que pesaba aproximadamente 1,3 kgs., que la Torá ordena que se debía ofrendar por 49 días desde el segundo día de Pesaj, el 16 de Nisan, hasta el día previo a Shavuot, la festividad que conmemora la entrega de la Torá en el Monte Sinaí. Este período, que se denomina Sefirat HaOmer (la cuenta del Omer) es considerado de luto, pues el Talmut relata que durante esos días, durante el primer siglo de la era común una plaga se propagó entre los discípulos del gran sabio Rabi Akiva “porque no actuaban respetuosamente uno hacia al otro», por lo que los Jajamín (sabios) establecieron la prohibición de actividades festivas y la observancias de las disposiciones halájicas (legales) del duelo, por ejemplo no afeitarse, estrenar ropas nuevas, efectuar casamientos, etc.

De acuerdo al texto talmúdico (Ievamot 62:2), la plaga se interrumpió en Lag BaOmer y es por ello que se acostumbra celebrar esta fecha – que corresponde al día 18 de Iyiar del calendario judío, que este año comienza al anochecer de 11 de mayo y se prolonga hasta el mismo momento del 12 de mayo, con los protocolos adecuados por el coronavirus. No habrá fogatas ni casamientos multitudinarios

El Talmut también relata que rabí Shimón bar Iojái desconoció una orden del opresor romano que gobernaba Eretz Israel (la tierra de Israel) prohibiendo enseñar Torá, por lo que fue condenado a muerte. Enterado del dictamen junto a su hijo rabí Eliezer escapó y se escondió una cueva lejana., en la que milagrosamente surgió un arroyo de aguas cristalinas y puras, y junto a ella creció un árbol de algarrobo, elementos con los que saciaron su hambre y su sed. Durante trece años permanecieron padre e hijo ocultos en la cueva, dedicando todo su tiempo al estudio de la Torá, hasta que recibieron la noticia de que el Cesar romano había muerto y el peligro había desaparecido, si bien debieron permanecer otro período de tiempo en la cueva hasta que volvieron a adaptarse a la sociedad en la que debían vivir.

Vuelto al ceno de la comunidad Rabí Shimón Bar Iojái continuó enseñando Torá hasta el mismo día de su fallecimiento, ocurrido en Lag BaOmer, y les pidió a sus alumnos que el día del aniversario de su muerte no sea recordado con dolor sino con alegría. Desde hace varios siglos, muchos judíos observantes de la Halajá (Ley judía) se reúnen en Lag BaOmer frente a la tumba en donde descansan sus restos, en Merón, cerca de Tzfat (Safed), en el norte de Eretz Israel (la tierra de Israel), donde alrededor de fogatas pues vinculan el fuego con la sabiduría de rabí Shimón bar Iojái, cantan, bailan y pronuncian alabanzas en medio del estudio de la Torá.

Tanto la plaga que termina con la vida de los discípulos de Rabí Akiva como la estada de rabí Simón bar Iojái en la cueva transcurre en un período muy agitado en Eretz Israel, que concluye con la rebelión contra el opresor romano dirigida por Bar Kojba, ocurrida entre los años 132 y 135 de la era común.

Bar Kojba conformó un ejército que llegó a contar con unos 300.000 hombres y que en una primera etapa de su accionar obtuvo diversas victorias sobre las tropas romanas, llegando a liberar Jerusalem. Rabí Akiva le modificó su nombre por el de Bar Kojba, Hijo de la Estrella – para cumplir con la profecía – «una estrella saldrá de Jacob» (Talmud de Jerusalem, Taanit 4:15), pues consideraba que desde una perspectiva militar, el sintió que una revuelta exitosa era factible y podría traer la Era Mesiánica – la gran era de espiritualidad y paz universal anunciada por los profetas de Israel – el gran milenio en el cual todos los judíos volverían a la tierra de Israel, el Templo de Jerusalem sería reconstruido e Israel lideraría al mundo hacia una era de justicia, renacimiento espiritual y completitud.

Finalmente las fuerzas romanas derrotaron a Bar Kojba y el rabino Pinjas Stolper al analizar el significado de Lag BaOmer afirma “Debemos entender que mucho del material del Talmud que trata de materias políticas fue escrito con mucha sensibilidad a cualquier censor Romano. El Talmud no podía hablar abiertamente de las ramificaciones políticas de los eventos”; basándonos en estos conceptos podemos deducir que Lag BaOmer es una fecha en la que el Am Israel (pueblo de Israel) conmemora su ideal de libertad y la infructuosa lucha contra el opresor romano: la plaga que que termina con la vida de los discípulos de Rabí Akiva, en la cual finalmente persiste el estudio de la Torá, representado por el episodio vivido por rabí Shimón Bar Iojái, y su hijo rabí Eliezer, por lo cual la fecha del fallecimiento del primero debe ser conmemorada con actividades festivas.
