El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, confirmó este viernes que Israel y Bahrein normalizaron sus relaciones diplomáticas.
“¡Otro logro HISTÓRICO ocurrió hoy! Nuestros dos GRANDES amigos de Israel y Bahrein llegaron a un acuerdo de paz. ¡Es el segundo país árabe en acordar la paz con Israel en 30 días!”, expresó Trump en su cuenta de Twitter, refiriéndose al reciente acuerdo con Emiratos Árabes Unidos (EAU).
El mandatario norteamericano también compartió una declaración conjunta de los tres países involucrados en el proceso. La Casa Blanca actuó nuevamente como mediadora. El hecho “contribuye a la paz en Medio Oriente”, según aseguraron.
“Abrir un diálogo directo y formar lazos entre estas dos sociedades dinámicas con economías avanzadas continuará con la transformación de Medio Oriente e incrementará la estabilidad, seguridad y prosperidad en la región”, indica el documento.
«Lograr una resolución justa, exhaustiva y duradera sobre el conflicto Israel-Palestina que permita al pueblo palestino alcanzar su potencial. A la vez que avanza su visión por la paz, todos los musulmanes que acudan en paz podrán rezar en la mezquita de Al Aqsa. Los otros sitios sagrados de Jerusalén continuarán abiertos para los practicantes de toda fe”, agrega el escrito.
El propio Trump había anticipado la posibilidad de realizar un anuncio de esta naturaleza el jueves en una conferencia de prensa. “Van a escuchar a otros países viniendo en un período de tiempo relativamente corto. Podría haber paz en Medio Oriente”, avisó.
Cerca de un mes atrás Israel llegó a un acuerdo de la misma naturaleza con EAU. Las negociaciones que llevaron al anuncio también tuvieron a la Casa Blanca como mediadora. La semana próxima habrá una ceremonia de oficialización, de la cual también participará Bahrein.

Bahrein fue el primer país del Golfo que aplaudió el acuerdo alcanzado por Emiratos e Israel, anunciado el 13 de agosto. Sus contactos con Israel se remontan a los años 1990. Ambos comparten la misma hostilidad hacia Irán.
