El día 25 de Kislev en el calendario hebreo, los judíos celebramos la festividad de Janucá recordando la victoria del pueblo judío sobre el Imperio Greco Sirio, que pretendió helenizarlo (siglo II antes de la era común) y apartarlo de su identidad.
En esta festividad de Janucá prendemos durante ocho días un candelabro de ocho velas comenzando el primer día con una vela, el segundo prendiendo dos y así sucesivamente hasta llegar a la octava vela. Demostrando de esta manera que cada día que pasa tenemos que seguir ascendiendo en nuestro esfuerzo.
El número 8 es un número que está asociado a lo milagroso, o sea que excede lo racional. Por eso es que a los 8 días de nacer se circuncidan a los niños judíos. La totalidad de las velas que se encienden en Janucá en los ocho días, incluyendo el shamash (vela piloto) son 44.
Si sumamos los dígitos 4 mas 4 nos da el número 8 también. La vela piloto o shamash se utiliza para encender las velas de Januca. A pesar de que esta vela piloto no cuenta como una luminaria propia de Januca. No obstante, la vela piloto nos enseña la lección de ayudar a encender la luz de los demás que están a nuestro alrededor.
Cuando los judíos lucharon contra el Imperio Greco Sirio y prevalecieron, querían encender la Menorá (candelabro) en el Templo de Jerusalén. Solo encontraron una vasija de aceite que no había sido profanada y que tenía el sello del sumo sacerdote (Cohen Gadol), pero cuyo contenido solo duraba un día.
El proceso de volver a elaborar el aceite adecuado para encender el candelabro duraba una semana. De manera tal que esa vasija con ese aceite solo podía durar un día. El candelabro no podría estar prendido hasta que existiera la nueva partida de aceite elaborado adecuadamente.

No obstante, el pueblo judío decidió prender el candelabro utilizando ese aceite que estaba en esa vasija. Milagrosamente dicho aceite duró ocho días, mas allá de cualquier explicación. Como consecuencia de esto, el pueblo judío entregó su alma (neshamá) con todo el fervor y su fuego interior y avanzó más allá de las dificultades que implicaba de que ese aceite no fuera a durar el tiempo adecuado. Ello demostró una lección de fe incondicional.
Vemos entonces que existe una relación entre la palabra neshamá (alma), aceite (shemen) y ocho (shmona) ya que las tres palabras utilizan las mismas letras en el alfabeto hebreo.
Tenemos que transformarnos en candelabros humanos. Para lo cual necesitamos una base que es el alma y un recipiente para recibir la luz y que se logra preparándonos para poder ser esa vasija espiritual. También necesitamos ese combustible que puede ser la plegaria, el estudio, la autorreflexión.
Además, tenemos que ser esa llama que es el producto que nos inspira para vivir y concretar las experiencias significativas de la vida.
En definitiva, el pueblo judío se convirtió en un candelabro humano, ya que entregó su alma, su fe, su lucha y el milagro se produjo. Ello implica el esfuerzo de llegar a lugares más altos. Así como la llama del fuego trata de ascender, el alma del ser humano debe tratar de elevarse espiritualmente. Sin importar las dificultades que pueden presentarse en la vida.
El resultado de prender el candelabro, es dar luz e iluminar nuestras vidas y la de todo el mundo porque el objetivo de la luz es que se proyecte hacia afuera y no que sea guardada solo para uno. Nuestra alma tiene que proveer ese combustible espiritual que encienda ese candelabro humano en el que podemos y debemos convertirnos para un mundo mejor y más humano. Encendamos nuestros candelabros en Januca y transformémosnos en candelabros humanos y compartamos la luz con toda la humanidad. La luz del alma, de la fe y del espíritu que nunca se apagan cuando esta entrega es sincera.
La oscuridad no existe, solo existe la ausencia de luz.
