El alcalde de Tel Aviv, Ron Huldaí, anunciará un nuevo partido político tras confirmar que se postulará en las próximas elecciones generales en Israel.

Huldaí dará hoy a conocer el partido que busca atraer a israelíes que “sienten que no tienen un hogar en el sistema político actual”, informó Enlace Judío.

“Anunciará oficialmente su ingreso al sistema político nacional y el establecimiento de un nuevo partido”, dijo un portavoz de Huldaí en un comunicado.

“Cientos de miles de israelíes sienten que no tienen un hogar en el sistema político actual. Levantaremos sus cabezas y les devolveremos la esperanza. Luego de que varias figuras clave han decidido unirse a mi camino, es hora de presentar una alternativa clara”, añadió Huldai en su declaración.

Huldaí, de 78 años y alcalde de Tel Aviv durante los últimos 22 años, ha sido vinculado con el ex jefe del Estado Mayor Gadi Eisenkot. Según reportes, también está considerando entrar a la política. De acuerdo a un informe de octubre del Canal 12, ambos habían acordado formar un partido. No obstante, aún no habían decidido quién ocuparía el primer lugar en la lista de candidatos.

Según una encuesta publicada por el Canal 12 este domingo, un nuevo partido teórico de centro-izquierda que incluya a Huldai, el líder laborista Amir Peretz, Avi Nissenkorn de Kajol Laván, y Ofer Shelah, exlegislador de Yesh Atid, podría obtener hasta siete escaños, debilitando principalmente a Yesh Atid y Kajol Laván.

En 2018, Huldaí aseguró un quinto mandato al frente del centro económico del país frente a su rival Asaf Zamir, quien se unió al partido centrista Kajol Laván y se desempeñó como ministro de Turismo antes de renunciar en octubre y dejar el partido esta semana.

Huldai nació en 1944 en el Kibutz Hulda en el centro de Israel, que le dio el nombre a la familia. Tuvo una larga carrera en el ejército y fue director del prestigioso bachillerato Gimnasia Herzliya en Tel Aviv durante seis años, antes de asumir el cargo de alcalde en 1998.
