El reciente temporal de nieve que azotó España (llamado Filomena), y especialmente su capital, Madrid, ha dejado tras de sí un muy importante reguero de daños ambientales. Especialmente entre los árboles de la ciudad.

Pero no de igual forma con todos. La copiosa carga nívea se cebó con aquellos, como los pinos, de hoja perenne, que siguen verdes y dando sombra incluso en invierno.

Las escenas de los árboles rotos con sus otrora gloriosas y eternas copas por los suelos me recordó mi infancia. Cuando mi profesor de judo nos contaba la historia del creador del arte marcial japonés del ju-jitsu, para el cual se inspiró en un fenómeno semejante; los árboles más rígidos se quebraban en los temporales, mientras que los más flexibles y aparentemente endebles se doblegaban para descargar volcando el peso de la nieve y sobrevivir.

Ironías del destino, la devastadora masacre vegetal en la zona central de España se produjo pocos días antes de Tu Bishvat, la fecha judía que proclama su renacimiento. Con él, el ciclo natural de la vida anunciado por el retorno del protagonismo de la luz.

La imagen sirve no sólo como ejemplo de adaptación en el mundo vegetal. Nuestro “nosotros”, con su aparente falta de firmeza (algunos dirán de “dignidad”, aunque no hay nada más indigno que renunciar a la única vida que tenemos), ha logrado atravesar milenios y desgracias. Sometimiento y masacre. Basándonos en la plasticidad de la palabra y un núcleo infranqueable a la fuerza bruta.

La mente, donde residen sentimiento y pensamiento. De la que nadie nos puede expulsar ni despojándonos de todo. Junto a la conciencia plena de que no somos perennes, aunque tengamos la misión de eternizar nuestra identidad.
