Se espera que Benjamin Netanyahu visite los Emiratos Árabes Unidos por primera vez la próxima semana, luego del anuncio de los Acuerdos de Abraham de paz y normalización entre Israel y los EAU en agosto.
De esta manera, Netanyahu planea reunirse con el príncipe heredero de Abu Dhabi, el jeque Mohammed bin Zayed, en su palacio de la capital.
Asimismo, se espera que Irán esté a la cabeza de la agenda de su reunión.
La visita de Netanyahu se produce poco después de que el presidente de los Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, asumiera el cargo, con un plan para que Estados Unidos se reincorpore al Plan de Acción Integral Conjunto e intente que Irán vuelva a cumplir con el acuerdo nuclear.
Tanto Israel como los Emiratos Árabes Unidos ven a Irán como una gran amenaza. La postura pública de Netanyahu contra el acuerdo con Irán en 2015 ayudó a acercar a los países. Esto, finalmente, condujo a los Acuerdos de Abraham del año pasado.
El viaje del primer ministro ha estado en proceso durante meses, pero se pospuso repetidamente debido a las restricciones de COVID-19 y los desarrollos políticos en Israel. Se llevará a cabo inmediatamente después de que el gobierno planea levantar la prohibición de vuelos entrantes y salientes al extranjero.
