El presidente de Túnez, Kais Saied, perturbado por las manifestaciones contra la mala gestión económica de su país, sacó la única carta que siempre ha funcionado para los presidentes y reyes árabes que necesitan desviar la atención de sus propios fracasos: culpar a los judíos.
Diez años después de que comenzara la llamada “Primavera Árabe” en Túnez, ese país vuelve a aparecer en los titulares. Eso es lo que hizo Saddam Hussein durante la Guerra del Golfo de 1991. En esa ocasión, disparó 39 misiles contra Israel después de la campaña internacional liderada por Estados Unidos para sacarlo de Kuwait. Muchos otros líderes árabes, tanto antes como después de Saddam, han utilizado la misma táctica. La hostilidad hacia Israel o los judíos sirve habitualmente como un factor unificador y un conveniente medio de desvío.
Y ahora tenemos al presidente Saied, quien declaró en una reciente visita a un suburbio de Túnez que los judíos no son más que ladrones. “Sabemos muy bien quiénes son las personas que controlan el país hoy”, dijo a una multitud en un discurso que fue capturado en video. «Son los judíos los que están robando, y tenemos que ponerle fin». La acusación de robo es un insulto antisemita bien conocido que se ha utilizado contra los judíos durante siglos.
El Comité de Rabinos Europeos condenó las palabras de Saied y lo responsabiliza por cualquier cosa que pueda sucederles a los judíos en su país. “El gobierno tunecino es el garante de la seguridad de los judíos tunecinos. Los comentarios del presidente Kais Saied amenazan la integridad y la seguridad de una de las comunidades judías más antiguas del mundo». Asimismo, la Dra. Miriam Gaz-Abigail, presidenta de la Organización Central para Judíos de países árabes e Irán (una organización paraguas que incluye organizaciones judías de una variedad de comunidades del mundo árabe), publicó una condena en la página de Facebook de la organización.
Además, el video del discurso de Saied circuló rápidamente en los medios de comunicación tunecinos. Muchos dicen que el insulto sobre los judíos fue un mero desliz de la lengua. Pese a eso, la palabra «judíos» se puede escuchar claramente en el video. Los funcionarios del gobierno afirman que Saied no dijo «judíos», sino una palabra que suena similar en árabe.
