Un niño israelí de 11 años descubrió una estatuilla que tiene unos 2.500 años de antigüedad durante una caminata familiar en el sur del país.

La figura, que representa a una mujer con el pecho desnudo y una bufanda, es un amuleto que se creía que protegía a los niños o aumentaba la fertilidad.

Por su parte, la Autoridad de Antigüedades de Israel (IAA) dijo que anteriormente solo se había encontrado un ejemplo similar, también del norte del desierto de Negev, que ahora se encuentra en la colección de Tesoros Nacionales.

Zvi Ben-David, el niño israelí, de Beersheba, estaba en un viaje familiar hace unas semanas cuando encontró la extraña figura. Su madre, guía turística profesional, se dio cuenta de la importancia del descubrimiento y se puso en contacto con la IAA.

Oren Shmueli y Debbie Ben Ami, de la IAA, dijeron en un comunicado conjunto que la estatuilla de 2.500 años de antigüedad, de solo unos centímetros de altura, fue hecha en un molde.

“La figurilla que descubrió Zvi es rara y solo existe un ejemplo en la colección de Tesoros Nacionales. Probablemente se usó en los siglos VI-V a. C., al final de la Edad del Hierro o en el período persa”, expresaron.

Además, manifestaron: “Se conocen figurillas de cerámica de mujeres con el pecho desnudo de varios períodos en Israel, incluida la era del Primer Templo. Eran comunes en el hogar y en la vida cotidiana. Y aparentemente servían como amuletos para garantizar protección, buena suerte y prosperidad”.

Los expertos señalaron que en ese momento había poca comprensión médica y altas tasas de mortalidad infantil, así como ausencia de tratamientos de fertilidad. «En ausencia de la medicina avanzada, los amuletos brindaban esperanza y una forma importante de pedir ayuda», agregaron.
