Las FDI publicaron un video animado el sábado por la noche que ofrece una mirada al interior de la red de túneles subterráneos terroristas, «Metro» de Hamas. La Fuerza Aérea israelí los destruyó en un asalto masivo a la Franja de Gaza.

El jueves por la noche, las FDI tomaron a Hamas por sorpresa. Los atrajo a su propia red de túneles, conocida por las FDI como el «Metro», antes de destruirlo, matando a unos 300-400 operativos de Hamas.

El «Metro» se había construido en los años posteriores a la guerra de 2014 en la Franja de Gaza, también conocida como Operación Margen Protector .

Era una red de decenas de kilómetros de túneles terroristas de Hamás que atravesaban Gaza. Proporcionaban seguridad a los operativos de Hamas frente a las incursiones aéreas israelíes.
Además del sistema de túneles del metro, las FDI han localizado y destruido al menos 18 túneles terroristas desde 2014, según un informe de las FDI de 2019.

A la medianoche, el departamento de inglés del portavoz de las FDI tuiteó que “las tropas aéreas y terrestres de las FDI están atacando actualmente en la Franja de Gaza”.

Aproximadamente a las 9 pm del jueves por la noche, las FDI comenzaron a reunir fuerzas terrestres a lo largo de la frontera con la Franja de Gaza. Algunos batallones blindados y de infantería se unieron a las baterías de artillería que se habían desplegado días antes para atacar objetivos de Hamás y la Yihad Islámica.

Más temprano durante el día, las FDI dijeron que una ofensiva terrestre era posible como una opción viable para la continuación de la Operación Guardianes del Muro. Las FDI estaban golpeando con fuerza los objetivos de Hamás y la Yihad Islámica desde el aire. En tierra se esperaba que causaran aún más daños. Aunque con un mayor riesgo para las fuerzas israelíes.

El problema fue que no hubo invasión terrestre. Sí, las FDI habían desplegado tropas a lo largo de la frontera, pero no cruzaron a Gaza. Lo que sucedió fue “en el aire” donde se habían reunido 160 aviones para un bombardeo masivo sobre la Franja de Gaza. Su objetivo era lo que las FDI denominaron el «Metro» de Hamas. Una red subterránea de túneles donde Hamas almacenaba sus armas y solía moverse por Gaza oculto a los aviones israelíes.
