Qatar, además de ser la nacionalidad del propietario del Paris Saint Germain (PSG), es el gran apoyo financiero de Hamás, el grupo terrorista que controla Gaza y que quiere la desaparición del Estado de Israel.

El fútbol y la crisis palestina no tienen, aparentemente, nada que ver, pero, al mismo tiempo, en este Oriente Medio de crisis enquistadas, todo está relacionado.

El empresario qatarí Nasser Al-Khelaïfi está al frente del club galo desde 2011. Fue tenista profesional y construyó su poder bajo el ala de la familia real de su país.

Hamás (junto al BDS) boicoteó la presencia de Lionel Messi en Israel cada vez que se tuvo que presentar. Incluso se suspendió un encuentro con la selección argentina antes del mundial de Rusia.

Messi tiene una relación afectiva y también comercial con Israel. Visitó el país en numerosas oportunidades. Tuvo un contacto afectuoso con el ex presidente Shimon Peres Z’L, pero hoy su principal ligazón con el estado judío es por ser embajador global de una destacada startup israelí.

En efecto, en septiembre del 2020 el jugador se convirtió en imagen de OrCam. Es una empresa que diseña y produce dispositivos que permiten a personas ciegas y con problemas de visión «leer» sus entornos y desenvolverse mejor. Tiene su base en Jerusalén.

Los equipos de OrCam se montan discretamente sobre armazones de anteojos. A través de un sistema de voz van «leyendo» a las personas ciegas tanto libros y revistas como señales de tránsito y textos en computadoras.

Pero esa no es la única relación de Messi – y, en este caso, su familia – con Israel. Según reportes de la prensa argentina, un fuerte lazo entre el padre del jugador, Jorge Messi, y un empresario israelí se gestó poco después de que el futbolista pasara por el Muro de los Lamentos el 3 de agosto del 2013.

Aquella vez, Messi había llegado a Israel para disputar un amistoso con el Barcelona patrocinado por el Centro por la Paz que Shimon Peres fundó y, en ese momento encabezaba.

Como parte de la gira, Messi visitó el Kotel en Jerusalén. En los encuentros con personalidades locales que se desarrollaron después de esa ceremonia, el padre del futbolista conoció al empresario Danny Benaim.

Desde entonces, Benaim y su mano derecha, el empresario argentino-israelí Ariel Raber, estuvieron relacionados con otros proyectos deportivos que involucraron a la estrella argentina a través de la firma Comtec.

¿Qué sucederá a partir de ahora que Messi firma contrato con un club que es presidido por un representante de un país que financia al grupo terrorista que comete atentados sangrientos contra Israel? ¿Le impedirán mantener sus contratos y acuerdos? El tiempo responderá.
