La cantante israelí Netta Barzilai, reina del Eurovisión del 2018, presentó su nueva canción: un tema que repasa su infancia en Nigeria con un pegadizo ritmo africano y melodía melancólica
El tema, “Playground Politica”, cuenta con la participación del exitoso cantante nigeriano Oluwatosin Ajibade, más conocido como Mr Eazi, quien aportó el toque de música highlife, el popular ritmo de Ghana que se extendió a medio continente.

En el videoclip de la canción se pueden ver breves momentos de viejas películas caseras en las aparece una pequeña Netta bailando, cantando y participando de actos infantiles en la ciudad nigeriana de Ibadan, unos 130 kilómetros al noreste de Lagos.

Allí, Netta vivió hasta los seis años de edad, acompañando a sus padres, que se habían trasladado al país africano por razones de trabajo.

Cuando llegó el momento de partir, “nos fuimos abruptamente sin tener la oportunidad de despedirnos” de los amigos. Esto escribió recientemente Netta en Twitter.

Precisamente, las redes sociales fueron el espacio elegido por la cantante para compartir las fotografías y videos que tomó durante su viaje de regreso a Nigeria. A mediados de año.

También se sospechaba que, de esa visita, podía surgir una nueva canción para compartir los recuerdos de Netta, la popular figura de Eurovision, tenía de Nigeria.

Y así fue que apareció “Playground Politica”.  La cantante israelí entona un sentido “llévame de regreso a Nigeria 1999 / en aquel tiempo era más feliz”.

En Ibadan “compartía el aula “con una niña de Japón, dos niños de Nigeria, una niña de Australia y otra de México”.
Cuando arrasó en el Eurovisión celebrado en Lisboa con su canción “Toy”, un himno de empoderamiento femenino, Netta tuvo la oportunidad de contar al mundo lo difícil que es para los niños crecer siendo “distintos”. En el caso de la cantante israelí se podría describir como tener unos kilitos extras.

Por otra parte, en Nigeria, Netta no se sentía diferente. En la escuela internacional a la que concurría “todos tenían acento, así que nadie tenía acento”.

“Crecí en una escuela de Nigeria que celebraba todas las culturas de los alumnos que iban allí”, rememoró Netta en una entrevista que le hizo la publicación estadounidense Hollywood Reporter en junio último.

Allí compartía el aula “con una niña de Japón, dos niños de Nigeria, una niña de Australia y otra de México”, describió la cantante.

El problema, confesó, fue cuando regresó a Israel con siete años. Debió sumarse a un grado de una escuela con “cuarenta niños blancos en un salón de clases” (muy distinto del colegio internacional de Nigeria). Fue ahí adonde “me decían que era gordita, de una sola ceja y con acento”.

Por suerte, la música rescató a Netta de los prejuicios y le abrió la puerta a una carrera que la llevó a convertirse, nada más y nada menos, que en reina de Eurovisión.
