El conductor de un camión que se estrelló anoche cerca de la Casa Blanca llevaba una bandera nazi y fue arrestado como sospechoso de amenazar la vida del presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, indicaron este martes las autoridades.
La Policía de Parques identificó al sospechoso como Sai Varshith Kandula, de 19 años y con domicilio en Chersterfield (Misouri), quien encara cargos que incluyen la amenaza de matar, secuestrar o infligir daño a un presidente, vicepresidente, o a sus familias.
En su página en redes sociales, Kandula se identifica como experto en análisis de datos, graduado de la escuela secundaria Marquette, con estudios en física aplicada e ingeniería en la Universidad Cornell, de Ithaca (Nueva York).
Las autoridades indicaron que la inspección del camión que conducía Kandula no encontró explosivos o armas en el vehículo.
El camión, de la firma de vehículos de alquiler U-Haul, se estrelló en las barreras del costado norte de la plaza Lafayette Square en la Calle 16. Esto es a unos cientos de metros de la residencia presidencial poco después de la hora 22.00 local.
