El alto representante de la Unión Europea para Asuntos Exteriores y Política de Seguridad, Josep Borrell, declaró el jueves que Israel había creado Hamás para impedir la solución de la cuestión palestina.
«Israel se reafirma en esa negativa [de crear dos Estados], que para impedirla han llegado ellos mismos a crear Hamás. Sí, Hamás ha sido financiado por el Gobierno de Israel para intentar debilitar a la Autoridad Palestina de Fatah», afirmó el diplomático europeo dando un discurso en la Universidad de Valladolid.
Asimismo, el jefe de la diplomacia de la UE recalcó que todo el mundo apoya la solución de dos Estados, aprobada por la resolución de las Naciones Unidas en 1947, que preveía la coexistencia de Palestina y el país hebreo. «La confianza no existía porque las partes implicadas no tenían suficiente apoyo ni siquiera de su población para llevarlo a la práctica», comentó.
Por su parte, Borrell acusó personalmente a Benjamín Netanyahu, primer ministro del país hebreo, de boicotear «rotundamente» la implementación del plan «durante los últimos 30 años».
Además, comentando de la última escalada del conflicto palestino-israelí, señaló que la solución para traer la paz debe ser impuesta desde el exterior. «Pero, si no intervenimos fuertemente, la espiral de odio y violencia seguirá de generación en generación, de funeral en funeral, cuando florezcan las semillas del odio que se está sembrando en Gaza hoy», subrayó Borrell.
La intervención del diplomático europeo va en contra de sus declaraciones hechas tras el estallido de la guerra entre Hamás e Israel en la Franja de Gaza. El 10 de octubre afirmó que Israel dispone del derecho a defenderse, pero en el marco de las leyes internacionales humanitarias.
«Manifestamos nuestro fuerte apoyo a Israel, porque ha sufrido uno de los mayores ataques contra el pueblo judío, y esto debe ser muy condenado y lo hacemos», reiteró Borrell el 23 de octubre, al agregar que los palestinos muertos eran también víctimas del movimiento militarizado.
