Facebook aplicará reglas de transparencia publicitaria tres semanas antes de las elecciones en Israel

Facebook se negó el martes a dar una fecha precisa para el lanzamiento de su herramienta de transparencia de publicidad política, que obligará a los patrocinadores de anuncios a identificarse públicamente.

En una conferencia de prensa en Tel Aviv, los jefes de la compañía dijeron que la herramienta se lanzaría a mediados de marzo.

Las elecciones israelíes se llevarán a cabo el 9 de abril.

A principios de este mes, y solo unas semanas después de que se reveló que la agencia de seguridad Shin Bet tenía inteligencia que demostraba que un país extranjero tenía la intención de influir en las elecciones de abril a través de la intromisión en línea, el Comité Central de Elecciones pidió a Facebook que presentara sus planes desde marzo para lanzar herramientas y restricciones en Israel destinadas a prevenir la interferencia extranjera y hacer que los anuncios políticos sean más transparentes.

Esa solicitud, evidentemente, quedó sin respuesta.

ordana Cutler, jefa de política de Facebook Israel, dijo en la conferencia de prensa que la compañía tenía la intención de implementar la herramienta de transparencia de anuncios solo en noviembre, de modo que decir que se aplicará a mediados de marzo representa un cambio de plan significativo.

“Tenemos que investigar, lidiar con los problemas del idioma y la forma en que funciona la autorización. Tenemos que asegurarnos de que se ajusta a la ley electoral. No es una talla única para todos. Tenemos que pensar en las amenazas potenciales y explicarlas cuando construimos el producto. Es un proceso muy complejo.
