José Emilio Burucúa: “No debí colocarme la estrella en el pecho para la fotografía”

En un texto, enviado al medio Infobae, el prestigioso intelectual y notable historiador del arte se disculpa y reflexiona sobre su controvertido acto de rechazo a la imposición de un permiso para circular a los mayores de 70 años, en el marco de la pandemia, por parte del gobierno porteño. En el mismo explica sobre el llamado del presidente de la DAIA, Jorge Knoblovits y elogió la manera en la que se contactó con él y su caballerosidad. También se disculpó por comparar a Rodriguez Larreta con un «pequeño Hitler»

«El jueves por la noche, cuando se dio a conocer la medida del Gobierno de la Ciudad que dispone que en el marco de la cuarentena por el coronavirus los mayores de 70 años deben pedir autorización para circular por las calles, el historiador José Emilio Burucúa envió un mail a amigos y conocidos en una suerte de gesto desesperado y de rechazo por lo que consideraba una injusticia y un acto de discriminación. Su texto iba acompañado de dos fotos en las que Burucúa portaba una estrella de David con la inscripción “+de 70”. Su gesto recibió apoyos y rechazos, estos últimos fundamentados en lo que se considera “banalización de la Shoah”. Aquí, el pensamiento del intelectual, días después:

1. El viernes por la noche, a pesar de tratarse del momento en que comenzaba el shabat, el doctor Jorge Knoblovits, presidente de la DAIA, aceptó hablar conmigo por teléfono. Ocurrió gracias a la intervención de un amigo común, Bernardo Lautersztein, a quien quiero como quise a mi hermano. Quedé estupefacto ante semejante muestra infrecuente de caballerosidad (virtud que cada día aprecio más; Don Quijote es, después de todo, una de mis lecturas favoritas). Mi dolor nacía de la posibilidad de que se me considerase un antisemita por la “banalización” de la Shoah que se me había atribuido. El doctor Knoblovits me aclaró que el rechazo de mi exceso retórico e iconográfico no implicaba, de ninguna manera, la falsa idea de que yo pudiera ser antisemita. Agregó que la reacción de la DAIA fue proporcional al disgusto de los sobrevivientes de la rebelión del ghetto de Varsovia, quienes aún viven en la Argentina. Por supuesto, me disculpé y lo hice sinceramente; yo había olvidado que, el 19 de abril, se cumplía un nuevo aniversario de la rebelión del ghetto. No debí colocarme la estrella en el pecho para la fotografía. Mi consternación aumentó, hasta el borde del llanto, cuando aquel amigo eterno que tengo, me cantó por teléfono el himno de los rebeldes del ghetto, que él aprendió en la Argentina en los años ’50.

2. Exageré demasiado al tildar al Jefe de Gobierno de “pequeño Hitler”. Una comparación cualquiera con ese gran Satán, uno de los máximos de la historia, no admite ninguna vuelta atrás. Por eso, presento mis excusas como corresponde.

3. Recibí, a pesar de todo, muchas adhesiones que, probablemente, no merezco. No he de decir quiénes me las enviaron pues afectaría a sus “buen nombre y honor”. Pero sí rescato dos citas pertinentes. La primera, los últimos cuatro versos del Rey Lear que pronuncia el fiel Edgardo tras la muerte del monarca anciano: “Preciso es que nos sometamos a la carga de estas amargas épocas; decir lo que sentimos, no lo que debiéramos decir. El anciano ha sufrido muchísimo; nosotros, que somos jóvenes, no veremos tantas cosas ni viviremos tantos años.” La segunda, se encuentra en una carta que Jefferson envió a Madison el 30 de enero de 1787: “Una pequeña rebelión, entonces y ahora, es algo bueno y tan necesario, en el mundo político como son las tormentas en el físico.”

4. Por el Misericordioso juro que cuanto narro enseguida es la pura verdad. Hoy, por la mañana, encontré en el libro de un viajero inglés del siglo XVI el comentario de un discípulo querido, el doctor Rogelio Paredes, muerto en el borde de la juventud. Es un texto de cuatro páginas. Cito sus últimas frases porque la serendipity (N. de la R.: descubrimiento o un hallazgo afortunado e inesperado que se produce cuando se está buscando otra cosa distinta) no puede ser mayor: “El viaje quizás no ha concluido, la aventura es inevitable y, si esperamos llegar a algún puerto, tenemos la obligación, como individuos y como especie, de procurar que ese puerto sea mejor que el que dejamos. De otro modo, tal tipo de apuestas desesperadas de la modernidad, como la que Pascal hizo a favor de la existencia de Dios, o Iván Karamasov, al proponer al Creador devolverle su billete ante la muerte de un niño, ese tipo de apuestas, decimos, a favor al fin de la esperanza y el consuelo, podrían volverse contra nosotros para privarnos de todo argumento en defensa de nuestra propia existencia”.
